I have been sleeping for upwards of 12 to 16 hours everyday for a couple of months now. Its not that I am doing it on purpose, I just can't seem to get out of bed. Sometimes after being awake for only a few hours, I'll get tired again. It sounds like something that a person diagnosed with depression might have, but I don't feel depressed. I have had a lot of troubles in my life lately, but I've stayed pretty optimistic and hopeful through it all. Could it be that I'm just repressing something that might cause my over-sleeping?

Sounds like perhaps you are struggling with things that are happening in your life. You could be depressed and a need for sleep is how it shows up for you. You may just be emotionally overwhelmed and sleep is a coping mechanism. While 12 to 16 hours a day of sleep is troublesome if you have things you need to be getting done and is not necessary usually it seems to be what your body is needing right now.

You could try getting some exercise which helps with depression and emotional upset. This will help regulate your sleep patterns as well. Eating small regular meals with fresh produce, whole grains and lean protein will keep your metabolism going so that you will feel energized when you are awake.

Time will help you work through the troubles in your life and the sleep issues should get better as well!

I'm sorry you are having sleeping trouble, it changes every thing doesn't it. well first you might want to ask your significant other if you breath normally when you sleep or do you gasp for air at times, if that is the case you might have sleep apnea which will cause you to constantly feel tired. An other suggestion is you are not getting true sleep, if you have allot of things going on in your life it might be difficult to reach REM sleep. Try melatonin you can find it at any grocery store in the vit. isle. it will help you have a deep sleep and its non addicting you can look it up for all the info. If your suffering from depression st. johns wart works wonders it sounds funny I have been told that many times but it works. I wish I could be more helpful but this is from my experience.

It's still possible you are depressed or have something else wrong with you. You may want to go to your doctor and be checked for anything physically and if nothing comes up there then go to a Psychologist and maybe just talking to someone outside the situation with help. Good Luck!

You need to talk to your doctor. He/she will help you determine the cause. It could be a physiological problem that can be treated with medication. Or something else.

Make sure that you exercise regularly.

Take care!
