Tennessee, Auburn, UNC Chapel Hill, College of Charleston, William and Mary, Vanderbilt or James Madison. Assuming acceptance to all, which would you choose for my sister? (a college-prep-private school senior with a very active social life, high career goals & great study skills) Location and cost are not factors.

Several of those aren't even in the same class; and the campus of each is vastly different.

As reputation goes, UNC-CH and William and Mary are considerably ahead of the others (my opinion) and those are two examples of widely different campus life.

She needs to visit each college she's seriously considering and see if she feels comfortable there. She also needs to consider whether each of these teaches the major she's most interested in. CoC for example is a great school with a fantastic reputation in SC - but it's not good if you want to major in Oceanography because that's not a major option.

With this list too, she will need to decide if she wants a more liberal arts foundation or professional foundation. Places like William and Mary, CofC, or JMU are liberal arts based colleges - UT and UNC-CH have serious research facilities available.

Narrow down some on specific criteria. Big city or small town. Big campus or intimate setting. Urban campus or out away from everyone? Closer to which big cities?

Good luck.

I would choose UNC Chapel Hill or William and Mary. They are the most prestigious of the two...I've visited both campuses and they are incredibly beautiful, and UNC is in a really nice town. Vanderbilt is VERY "Southern." James Madison is kind of a commuter school, which doesn't help the sense of community within the college. It's also not very highly regarded, especially compared to the others.

Vanderbilt. Vanderbily is recognized across the country, whereas schools such as Tennessee, Auburn and College of Charleston are regional. William and Mary and Chapel Hill are very respectable schools as well, but I think Vanderbilt overshadows them. I don't know much about James Madison....

Good luck to your sister! She sounds like she's off to a great start!

UNC. i'm out in the genuine international :) and that i will inform you that one has a great popularity in my e book. i'm guessing you're an east-coaster with w&M on your checklist. ASU has mind-blowing climate and is crammed with incredibly incredibly females and sororities. not a bad element. William and Mary is nice too, i don't be attentive to approximately their linguistics application, yet having long gone to a huge ten college myself, I enjoyed the journey and the camraderie i come across later in existence with others who went to important universities, i think of you will like Chapel Hill. Congratulations on such stellar thoughts!
