Its on ok laptop if you just want to get on the internet. I noticed it comes with Vista Home Premium but only 1GB of ram... that might run a little slow and since its from gateway it ill probably come with alot of useless software like all the other companies do. If you want to play games then I would not buy it. If your willing to spend a bit more money i know you could get a better laptop.

Answer to other persons question.
Manufacturer Warranty
Parts 1 year limited
Labor 1 year limited

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you just plan on surfing the internet, using a word processor, talking on the internet, voIp, and basic non processor or hardware intensive, it is fine for it. The computer is cheap, but I would consider the technology quite obsolete.

Especially with the new operating system Vista, it is highly recommended that you have at least 2 gbs of ram for it to run comfortably. Vista is very RAM intensive.

I would also recommend at Core 2 Duo, the technology incorporated in them is ages ahead of Turions especially in performance and efficiency.

As for the computer itself.
I'm not a fan of Gateways, I don't believe that their build quality is very good. I've personally never purchased one, but I've never wanted to because my other friends who bought a Gateway had problems with it, especially with the hardware.

I would recommend HP, Toshiba, or Lenovo.

I would recommend an HP if you're looking for something aesthetically flashy. A Lenovo for performance and durability. Toshiba just makes good laptops.

Also, laptops are a naturally expensive. I would recommend you purchasing a computer that is around 800+ to take advantage of newer technology that will probably increase the lifespan, before you feel the need to replace it.

I personally own a Lenovo.

Laptops are not all a like, build quality can differ on a large scale.

Gateway is pretty notorious for build quality.
Dell, is neutral, mixed reviews
Lenovo, Toshiba, and HP often get positive feedback from users.

Based solely on the CPU, I'd say go for it for sure.

Based on the Operating System, price, and features, I'd say buy it, but don't plan on doing anything "intensive" until SP1 comes out.

Based on who made it, I'd say take a good look around at similarly priced laptops as well. I can't speak for present-day, but in the past, Gateway was "notorious" for their use of proprietary parts, or simply put, if you had to replace a given part, you had to use one of their parts (conveniently higher-priced of course) as opposed to a "generic" part.

All laptops are fundamentally the same just like all computers the difference lying in the storage capacity and a few other insignificant features!
