Democracy is a form of government, not a policy. In a democracy, the people make decisions, usually through representatives that are elected by popular vote. A major advantage is that most people at least feel that they have a voice in government. A major drawback is that decisions often take a long time and require compromise, often weakening a strong proposal. The advantages in a free society generally outweigh the disadvantages.

Democracy is majority rule. So the mob gets to decide everything, and the individual is forced to go along. There is no freedom in a democracy unless the majority says so. The majority can force their views on everyone in every way. Our constitutional republic form of government protects individual liberty. But we are losing that fast.
