Yes, the death rattle is a thing that does happen...it did happen to my mother. It's the most unpleasant sound ever.

I hope to f uck no one has to hear one. I was sitting next to my Grandfathers bed two years ago and heard his death rattle - there are many things I remember and many I wouldnt want to remember and sitting there looking at his cancer riddled body as that gut wrenching sound emanated from him is something I wouldnt wish on anyone.
Does it live up to its name? Yes.

I have heard it. It does not always happen. Sometimes people just exhale normally sometimes you hear the rattle.
