f(x) = 4x - 5

find f(3). That just means plug in a "3" for every x in the given equation and calculate.

f(3) = 4(3) - 5 = 12 - 5 = 7

Well, do you know how to do function notation?

If it says find f(3), it means you are putting 3 in for x.

So, just get rid of the f(x) thing in the equation and evaluate the expression 4(3) - 5

I'm sure you can do that...

If it said "Find x if f(x) is 3" That means you change f(x) in the equation to 3 and solve:

3 = 4x - 5

You can probably do that too...
