Well, I do not have many gifts to buy these days, but when I did, I had a list, and moved from one store to the next that was on the list. I used newspaper ads and sales to decide where to go first.
It went like this: Mom wants a purse, Saks. Dad wants hankerchiefs and a shirt, JC Penney Tall Men' s. Karen wants a gift certificate to Hobby Lobby, and Diane one from Lowes. I'll do Hobby and Saks the same trip, and get Penney's and Lowes on the way back.
And if I did not know what to get some one, I'd schedule in a go looking stop, like, hmmm, so and so loves candy, Bissengers is down the mall from Saks, I'll stop by , if not I"lltry Target on the way to Lowes, they have neat candy.
Then I go get the bags and wrapping paper, if I need something special. I keep bags and bows in standard sizes at home.
Yes, I've started, I bought the group at work a little something, and one of my friends something. That leaves me 2 checks to write, and two gifts to buy.

I'm almost done. No long lines for me!

I make a list of everyone I want to buy for and write down suggestions based on their preferences and hobbies.

With kids, it's easy because they usually write a list and are never shy about telling you what they want, but with adults it's harder. Knowing what colors and styles they like and how they like to spend their free time is very helpful!

Every year I have a theme.....this year everyone gets beauty products.....even the men and the children in my family.

It's easier for me because I just have to think of the beauty items that will be perfect for each person.

ex....my husband will get a 1/2-day package at a spa for a massage, a manicure, a facial, a hair-cut & a professional shave.

I've almost finished mine, I HATE LONG CUES so i get it over and done with. i always write a list on what I'm getting people then i just focus on them presents. Just focus on what you want, what shops your going to and how much you can spend. Try shopping online first to get a idea of what you want. It's so easy to get distracted with the lastest gadgets etc so stick to your list.

i have totally started mine...its easier to get started now and get things gradually so you dont run out of money fast...well i sit down and think about who i am going to get gifts for and what they might like as a gift (you may want to ask them what they want)..then i get online and look at some options and price ranges and write them down...start buying the most expensive so that you can manage your money a little better...

i make a spreadsheet in microsoft excel.
list the names in column 1, the gift you plan to buy, cost where to buy it and put in X in the next column if it's purchased. if you're good with excel you can create formulas to keep track of your spending.
