When driving home on friday evening I saw the first Christmas decorations of the season up in a house window, lights and all!

Part of the estate i live on is rented accomodation to the USAAF (I live in the UK just to clarify!) and I know a lot of them put up the decs for Thanksgiving (next week i think it is) but I think that the 9th November is a bit early!

Your thoughts on the matter? Anyone else seen any Crimbo decs up yet? Other than in the high street of course!

I have seen outside decoration in some houses not mine yet this weekend I just purchased my tree decor I moved in to an apt and now I get to put my own tree. At my parents house I would always put the tree on or the day after thanksgiving normally on thansgiving because it feels so nice and warm during our dinner. I have to put two trees up this year my parents (she loves how I do it) and my own I plan to pu hers up the day before thansgiving and I plan on putting mine sup the day after so go figure. I personally love this holiday so I would be as eager to have all my stuff up already but indeed is too early I think the week of thanksgiving is good.

Typically, Christmas starts off at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City with all the big balloons. At the end of the parade is Santa Claus.

However, leave it to WalMart to ruin it. I have seen Christmas decorations at WalMart here in Georgia on display in August.

Just as bad as putting them up too early, is leaving them up too late. New's Years should be the end of Christmas lights, not the third week in January as some people do.

Most of the US decorators try to have lights up so they can power on the day after Thanksgiving or on Dec 1st.

I know of at least 3 people in MS that are currently putting up decorations for a 12-1 light up.

And to the poster below about Carbon Footprint - Al Gore wastes more energy in a month than you or I could conserve in a year.

The town in where I work and the town where I live both have lights up ready to go for Christmas in the town centre but are yet too turn them on.

I give it a day or two for some big retailer to cave then all follow suit.

There is a guy about 2 miles from me who has started to put up his external lights. Mind, the amount of lights he puts up will take him till mid December - he obviously cares damn all about his "carbon footprint". I've never seen so many light in one place and Santa in a Sleigh going over the roof too!

Not seen any actually switched on yet, but in my area, this usually happens at a weekend.

All dept stores since Sep/Oct and obviously Oxford/Regent St and local streets - I agree it's ridiculous and makes me get into panic mode as i'm having a new kitchen fitted and haven't time to create my own personal Christmas forest till December.........but that's when it should happen?

i bought those attractive penguin decorations approximately six months in the past. i like them! all of them are donning scarfs, mittens, and beanies. some have a snowball of their flipper (hand), some are on sleds, and a few have carol sheets and that they appear to be their making a music! they are particularly cute!
