The Golden Rule is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" It is a very good rule to live by and it should be easy to live by but that is not the case. Sometimes we just never appreciate the worth of something unless it impacts on us.Life does not have to be dog eat dog , but we must make a conscious effort to do the right thing. No one makes us do anything against our will , we make choices. It takes great courage to do the right thing. Why would people treat another person's life with so little regard ,simply because they choose to.

We have free will. If you break the golden rule you will get the Karma (reaction to the action) We are to do unto others as we would have done unto us so not to create suffering to others or our self. If we create suffering to another living being then we will have to suffer that same misery. This is the law of material nature. If one want to end all karma and misery one should take up the process of self realization and come to the transcendental platform beyond all this material illusion. For info read The Science of Self Realization by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. I am so glad I know the laws of nature (when a parent says to a child don't touch the fire it will burn, the fire will not resist burning the little child due to his or her ignorance,it will act due to the laws of material nature. We have to know the laws and act accordingly or we will no doubt suffer the reactions.

The golden rule is best interpreted as saying: "Treat others only in ways that you're willing to be treated in the same exact situation." To apply it, you'd imagine yourself in the exact place of the other person on the receiving end of the action. If you act in a given way toward another, and yet are unwilling to be treated that way in the same circumstances, then you violate the rule.

Rules are rules and laws are laws and if some people didn't buck the system than we wouldn't be human. Besides there has to be a balance of things and if things didn't go up and down than change wouldn't happen and change gives us the ability to move forward as a species. It is a key to peace, but it is also a learning tool as to what makes us tick as a whole.
I love the variences of life!!! Its what makes it interesting.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you......
or......
Don't do to someone else what you don't want done to you....
Starting to sound suspiciously like the old adage....What goes around, comes around...or you reap what you sow. In this way, the golden rule works.
If you are mean to people, expect meanness in return...
If you treat people well, you will be treated well.
If you are merciful, expect mercy to be shown to you, maybe not here, but in the future.

Many religions have been summarized by the golden rule: treat others in ways that you would like to be treated. It is often "broken". Many people do not treat others with respect, the way they would like to be treated.

The Golden Rule is: treat others as you'd like them to treat you. Pretty basic.
