What do you want to be when you grow up?It was the first question i can remember being asked by my Gran. I was six at the time and had the world at my feet, or so i thought!I couldn't make my mind up between a footballer or a truck driver like my Dad. i`d lived with my Gran for a while now and didn`t really know why except now and again my gran would say " don't worry, it wont be long till you are back home. Truth was i didnt want to "Go Home" Mum and Dad were big drinkers and the weekends were hell. I`d never drink i thought, never ever, after seeing what it did to my mum and dad, i didn`t want to be part of that! So, i lived with my Gran, thankfully, for many years until she died, then i had to go back home, to the rows, the spoilt sheets being washed on a Sunday morning and the violence that came with a very large hangover. This spilt over sometimes and affected my schoolwork and my lack of grades. I`d lost interest in driving a truck, like my dad and although i thoroughly enjoyed my football i always new i wasn`t quite good enough to make the grade. So, here i was at fourteen being asked the same thing by my Careers officer that was attached to the school. I was stumped! I honestly didn't know what i wanted to do and there was only two years or so to go before i left. A Manager i said! I would like to take charge and do something constructive!was my answer, now i had a purpose, again i had a dream, and you know what ? I became an Alcoholic! Just like mum and dad!

You can still choose to be what you want to be. It was (is) so much easier to blame your parents. It is easier not to change yourself. You should be thankful that your had your Grandmother for your foundation in life. Instead you want pity because your parents are alcies. Your life is what you make it. It is just like a mirror, If you smile it Smiles back at you.

Sounds like you are worried about becoming an alcoholic . Well let me tell you that you are your own person and just because your Mom & Dad are that way does not mean that you will be . My Dad is a recovering alcoholic and he and my Mother also had affairs on each other and they basically fought every single day until they divorced . Now there are three of us kids in our family and none of us became alcoholics and we do not abuse our families violently as he did .

You have the choice and you controll your future . Make the decision to stay away from alcohol and find something you really enjoy doing and find a way to make money with it . You are still young enpough to change your mind several times about your future . Good Luck To you

Learn from mistakes and become a better person. You can't use the excuse that your mom and dad were drinkers that is why you are one.It is an excuse for you to drink and untill you realize that then you wont stop. You can stop with will power and the want to stop.My brother is an alcoholic and lives in North Carolina in the woods in a shack. He has got help many times, but always goes back to drinking and this is where he is at in his life.He says drinking puts him in another world so he doesn't have to deal with this one.He chooses to drink and live in a shack and he also begs for money. He is a roofer and he caan get lots of work, but noone will hire a drunk. He has stopped for a year once and then just went back to drinking.People use excuses for eveything to make others feel sorry for them.If you know you were righting this then you know you can stop drinking if you wanted to.

Its truly sad u talk of being an alcoholic in such a non chalante way. Ur a sick lil man and I will pray for you and those who are truly suffering from the disease.
Alcoholism isnt something to laugh about. It isnt something to take lightly. Its a self destructing disease that slowly kills u, but not before it has killed everyone around u first. You lose your family, your spouse, your kids and everything else that means anything to u.
Keep that in mind the next time u write such a pathetic passage and pun about such a serious issue.

Of course you did. You were not taught to be anything else. It is time to "parent yourself" and learn how to manage your life.It will take help from others, but I bet you can do it. ( If you want to )

You still have time to change, but you are the only person that can change yourself... You have to commit yourself to becoming a better person, and then do it...
