white and red berries for the winter season but I'm not sure how long they'll last. What other plant cound I put out in hanging pots? I live in the Northeast (usually pretty snowy but thanks to global warming the times, they are a-changing). I have a white farmhouse, black shutters, red door. Thanks : )

Here in the Northern Midwest, we have just made our wreaths for Christmas out of the evergreens and many have them displayed already. They will last long into January. Go ahead and make yours, they should be fine.

The hanging basket pot decor you describe sounds fabulous for your type of home !!! When should I be there to take the Christmas photo ? : )

Happy decorating !

My cut evergreens (Mid-Indiana) stay green a good two months. You may also want to consider checking out any end-of-seasons sales at nurseries for container grasses - they can be put in hanging/window boxes for some "character" in the winter as well.

any type of evergreen will last nicely if water is kept available!.... hard to do if the pots freeze, I know.... your berries idea is great.... here in NC I use holly, euonymus, pine, juniper, nadinia berries and pyracantha to dress up window boxes... add pine cones and red dogwood sticks, apples, tangerines, walnuts, etc, and it's a pretty thing to see!... but mine are on the porch, not hanging.... maybe a window box that sits on the rail for you?.... just an idea.....

cut evergreens will last outside all winter.. it does help keep better color if you water them once or twice.. I put garden soil in my pots, arrange my greens, add some red-twigged dog wood, water it, add some decorative things (fake poinsettias, etc.), then let freeze.. the soil and moisture freeze and hold everything in place
