They failed to pass universal health care in the 1990s when they had a Democratic president, a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate

Or will the their buddies in the drug companies, insurance companies and their lobbyists killed universal health again?

What say you?

The republicans is the party of big business and the military-industrial complex. Now you can add the party that wants to restrict civil liberties, deny health care to poor children, divert money from public education to private schools, squelch science, ruin the environment, encourage discrimanation based on sexualy orientation (disabilities, income, - just fill in the blank). The republicans worked tirelesssly with the HMOs in the 90s and drug companies not to help American citizens, but to get the companies an even bigger piece of the pie. The last congress that passed the "aid" to help the elderly purchase drugs. It is a nightmare - just another forced tithing to big business with the help of lobbist from the people least able to afford it. If the companies can't sell you an insurance product because it is inferior, they will force you to buy it an take the money from you. Don't forget to close the loophole so the same drugs from Canada or the UK are illegal! Don't worry, you'll think of a "noble" excuse - it can be a lie. That is consistent.

The republican party is the party of the mean-spirited, fear-mongering ultra-wealthy who want
absolute power to preserve their privledges. Screw everybody else!

Democrats help the poor and working class much more.

I'm actually an independent, but the democrats are looking fairly good this year. No doubt they'll select the most devise candidate (Clinton) that will make a "working government" impossible. Go with Richardson or Edwards guys or you'll loose it again!

If the Democrats do not win the presidency and retain both houses of Congress, there is a great possibility. A divided government, in which one party controls the executive branch while the other controls one or both houses of Congress, allows for a lessening of political gridlock and other roadblocks to legislation being passed. A united government for the Democrats could prove fatal upon many bills, seeing as a united government causes ideology to get in the way of many processes, rather than simply just party politics.

Look, No matter who (especially Hillary) wins the Dem nod, Conservatives will come out to vote in unprecedented numbers. Conservatism as whole won the last election since most Dems elected were more Conservatives than not.
The next president WILL be a Republican. Most Conservatives feel threatened. They don't realize the Conservative democrats exist. This will motivate them in numbers unlike ever seen in this country. Conservatism is on an upswing and will dominate not only in America but as recently seen in France and across the globe.

It is less an issue of Democrat or Republican than it is of Right and Wrong! Right=controlled spending, securing borders and keeping Americans employed so we can keep the economy healthy. Wrong=tax and spend mentality, creating larger government and allowing illegal immigrants benefits/education programs while our own struggle for the same. Wrong=Hillarycare and pork projects. Right=Anyone who shows fiscal responsibility. As proven by all who voiced their anger about the Shamnesty Bill, the power is truly in the hands of the people!

I'll say what you so astutely pointed out, corporate America controls our government and our economy. It's the institutions with BIG money who control everything. Piss them off enough, we'll go into a recession, what do they care they have all the money they need. Their greed won't allow them to release the stranglehold they have over everything, they'll punish us if threatened. We need another Teddy Roosevelt and a strong congress to stand up to business. Capitalism by giant multinational corporations is out of control.

Man I hope they will do it. But maybe we as a people are not telling them to do it loud enough.I think we should bug the crap out of them until the listen . Vote for the candidate on universal health care only, Then when we get our way on that we go for the rest.

I think that some sort of "health care plan" will be passed by whoever wins guaranteed to "lower costs" and "increase efficiency" and it will be hailed by those who passed it as a "bipartisan bill" which best "serves the needs of the people."

Just like we were promised about airline reform, banking reform, credit reform, communications reform, etc. etc. The result will be higher costs to us, less efficiency, less availability for those in economic need, and will serve no one but a very few.

On this issue, I am very pessimistic about both parties.

On all other issues, I am very pessimistic about the christian taliban republicans.

I hope universal health care is never approved in the US. It is socialism. It is a bad idea.

The Republicans shot that down, led by Gingrich.

I think if the Democrats hold on to Congress and increase their numbers and Hillary is elected there is an excellent chance that healthcare reform will occur. It's not necessarily going to be in the form of universal healthcare though.
