What is art and how do you know if it is art or not?

Really, really and truely, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." If you think it is art, then it is art. If a lot of people think it is art, then it can become a fad. If the majority of people think it is art then it can become historic.
Personally I think that all art requires skill (even holding a paintbrush and dipping it in paint requires a "skill") but the more skilled an artist is, then the better the art.
For real life paintings, I like realism and impressionism best. I do not like cubism. For sculpture, I like shape and color best. For interior design I like simple lines and a bright white base with sharp contrast colors. And so on.
In the end...its art if someone says so.

As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is art.

Art creates a responce. It brings up emotions. Art can make you cry, laugh, think.

How do you know if it is art? All things created are art in some way. You may not appreciate what you see. Others may. It is subjective.

I guess the same could be asked of music.... what makes an artist and artist and how do you know if they are an artist.

To please any one by any means is an art, That i think. It may be music, painting, writing or buttering too.
