Dean Koontz is a good writer if you like fiction.
My best recommendation though, is Sara Henderson's books written about her life on a farm in outback Australia.
Silent Footsteps (can't remember author) was a good one about elephant preservation and newly discovered habits.
John Edward, Sylvia Browne and Betty Shine all write wonderfully thought provoking books about life and the afterlife.
Thomas Harris writes good novels (Hannibal), and of course Stephen King, thriller novelist extroadinaire!

It would help if you gave your interests, but here goes:
http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.
Also these: http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#great . Lots of lists, but I especially like the Harvard Classics list - all the books that I should have read, but (mostly) never did.
Finally, these: http://www.awardannals.com/wiki/Honor_roll:Genres - pick your genre, find the best books ranked by how many awards they've won.
I hope this helps.

Go onto Amazon.com and read the book reviews - see what other people think of the books that you have read before and look at suggested books by other authors. Books are a very personnel thing and what one person likes another will hate.

How Opal Mehta got kissed, went wild, and got life -- somewhat humorous, light reading, makes you think a bit about what present generation is all about at high end, what is snobbery in campus circles etc. John Wright's Indian Summers -- light reading, makes you think about a foreigner's perceptions about India and life in India!

You may be a bit too old, but my favorite book when i was in junior high school was "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. It made me think about our current society and where it is headed, equality, and how emotions affect people and their decisions.
