So the scenario was that my friend had an expired drivers license so he asked me to drive his sister's car, which I felt uncomfortable doing in the first place, and on top of that his friends were carrying illegal stuff on them. Me being the good friend that I am took matters into my hands and drove to the concert we were going to. When we finally parked thinking we were at the right spot, we all drank our beers and found out we were in the wrong area. We got back in the car and I drove more, I backed into a pole and dented my friend's sister's car pretty bad. She doesn't even know it..yet, until tommorow. I'm really broke and I know I probabbly shouldnt have drove but I felt bad. I know it's my fault for not saying anything, but should I be totally at fault and have to pay for all the damages? I am broke, I didn't want to drive in the first place, and I drank when I got back in the car and my friend knew. I need advice, and I can't afford to pay for a bumper right now. Help!

You assumed the responsibility when you got into the drivers seat. You are 100% responsible for paying for the damage. You could have said no,but you didn't. The sister shouldn't have to claim it on her insurance, that will make her premiums higher. You consumed alcohol and then drove a car,not a good move at all. Judge Judy would nail you to the wall.

You made several foolish mistakes. You are lucky you didn't get arrested for possession. Then you could have gone to jail and the car could have been seized by the police. You are totally at fault. Live and learn. Wise up. Go and tell his sister. Tell her you are broke. Tell her you are sorry. Tell her that if her insurance does not cover the damages, that you will pay her when you have the money, which I assume may be a while. You might try to get a job to pay for it. She is not going to be very happy about this. Take your bawling out like a man, and eat humble pie.

what a tangled web we weave when we drive for others with expired licenses and who are carrying illegal substances on their person and drink even when we know we're going to likely drive everyone home...
1. you've established that you're broke
2. why did the sister give consent to drive her car when brother's license wasn't legal?
3. get together with those friends and figure out how they're going to help pay for the damage. because fault lies with each of you having or doing something illegal in regard to that trip you all took
4. if they don't step up and do the right thing and help you out then you're stuck and you better get a job and become un-broke
5. each of you need to apologize profusely for what happened to that car
6. next time you'll know better

You should call and let your friends sister know what happened and offer to pay her for the dent little by little so you can afford it. OR offer to pay for a rental while her's in the shop and pay for half of the cost of repairs.. Hope this helps :)

Your friend should act like a friend and absorb half or the cost.

best wishes
