I am serious, and am just curious as to how many people actually think the government has their best interest at heart and I would like reasons why you do or don't trust them.

Let's just say that I am very wary of them. Theoretically they are my employees and have to be managed. There are many sincere hardworking government leaders in our government, but that does not mean that I agree with what they are doing. Did I hear that we have nearly 300 million people in this country. That means that there are almost 300 million opinions about what should be done at various times and places. Wow!

I don't trust the government
It's mainly because they propagandize wars, pass debilitating bills 'in the name of freedom' like the Patriot Act.(have you actualy read that? it's kinda scary.), Claim you are being protected and develop false sense of security.
The leader is hypocritical and his friend shoots people in the face. and has the victim apologize. ( you know what I mean).
The governments best interest is how they can make thier next thousand dollars, and what politician will sway to the decision of the greater good.

I realize that this sounds more like a rant than a reason. But this subject really chaps my bum.

Trusting any government implicitly is insane. Our government is better then some and worse then others. Some members of our government have our best interest at heart. Quite a few have their own best interest at heart. Some are actively working to undermine our sovereignty and our rights. Even those who do truly want what is best are sometimes misled and other times simply inadequate. Our government is not past redemption but anyone who absolutly trust everything they say or do should probably not be allowed to function unsupervised.

no and that is the problem with any government whether it its the bush, clinton or any other president that we have had, we can't trust them. we need to hold them more accountable for their actions, they are all in it to support their ego, lobbiest, corporations, and get personal gradification. Do they ever really deal with issues that you and I actually a a concern about....Money is spent like it is now tomorrow....then they wonder why the american people are in financial trouble with their homes and credit cards, the are following in the foot steps of the american government officials..

Unfortunately, most of our elected officials don't care about us because they care more about being re-elected. And it's our own fault. Our election system requires that legislators spend too much of their time schmoozing people who could give them the millions of dollars it costs to run a campaign. In turn, legislation gets passed that favors those donors because we don't pay attention, write letters or make phone calls and get involved in what's going on. So our elected officials get no flak from ignoring us and pay attention to those who show interest - which are the money-givers. Incumbents usually win re-election by a huge majority indicating that their ignoring what we really want doesn't hurt them at all.

I gave this answer before but I think it is worth repeating. I knew a man who was one of the first American soldiers to enter the death camps in Germany close to the end of WW2. He came home and became a teacher and his advice to his students was "always question your government " he didn't say don't trust your government but always question your government, either way it's good advice.

I do trust the government because he chose the right way to go to war because he is trying to think of the future of America. If we dont have this war our freedoms and liberties could be in jeoparady and we could have a batte on our own homeland.

The reason that I support Bush is because he is trying to protect our nation from terrorists and he does not want to see another terrorist attack because that hurt our country.

Another reason that I support the government is that when the Republicans are in office they believe that the government should try their best to stay out of peoples everyday life because they do not believe in hand outs. They believe that the American people have to work for the things that they want in life.

Weather or not you agree, our government is still the best.
Where would you rather be ?
Thank goodness the war is not on our purple mountains majesty.
Stop criticizing and instead do something positive.
War will always be because it keeps economies going.
We will always defend what is ours and we owe that to the people who have died for our freedom.

Trust and Bush? Sorry, they don't go together. I hate the man because I feel he is a real threat to any country with oil. He says he invaded Iraq to 'free' the people from a tyrant, that's a joke! Iraq is in a bigger mess now than it was before Bush decided to "help".
