Why don't they sell the book "The Four Musketeers" anymore? I heard of its existence, but that it is not sold anywhere now-a-days. I really liked the Three Musketeers and would love to read this sequel (yes, I know about the Man in the Iron Mask, but would rather read the Four Musketeers if I could get my hands on it). Does anyone know where I could find it perhaps? I tried ebay and couldn't find anything...

Because Dumas didn't title a book that way: the change in title was for a movie. A publisher might retitle to fit the movie, but I don't know which book or books he might deem "the Four Musketeers." Possibly "Twenty Years After."

However, the situation is this:

Dumas wrote the D'Artagnan Romances:

* The Three Musketeers (Les Trois Mousquetaires, 1844)
* Twenty Years After (Vingt Ans Après, 1845)
* The Vicomte de Bragelonne (Le Vicomte de Bragelonne, ou Dix ans plus tard, 1847): When published in English it was usually split into three parts: The Vicomte de Bragelonne, Louise de la Valliere, and The Man in the Iron Mask, of which the last part is the best known.

They named the movie that because it continues the story of D'Artagnan but figured movie goers wouldn't be literate enough to know what it was without referencing the first book/movie. I've read them all and loved them: in fact, the set is on my bookshelves now. It's sometimes difficult to get the complete set, as not everyone wants to read all those pages. I think there are eight books in my set; as the wikipedia list above indicates, the books are sometimes split up into smaller books. Dumas' works were often serialized and he could indulge in lots and lots of storytelling-- which I like. By the end, only one of the original Mustketeers is left alive.

Try www.abebooks.com and www.alibris.com Some booksellers there should have relatively inexpensive copies or you could try your local library. If they don't have them all, then they can interlibrary loan them for you to read.

i've never heard of 4 musketeers. i only know that the two sequels are, in this order :20 years later and 10 years later(also known as the Vicount of Bragelone).
But maybe the American version of the sequel is called 4 musketeers, i can't tell.

You can still buy it new (or used) on Amazon.com - see the link below. While I found it on half.com, they don't have a new copy, and their used copy was more expensive than the one listed on Amazon.

Good luck!
