It depends on the time, like right now at 2:49 am here in Washington State, sleeping would be ideal because frankly I don't have anything better to do, except for answering questions at yahoo. It also depends on what you mean by "nothing better to do." When I was working two jobs and going to school full time, sleeping became a luxury. Now I could afford a lazy Sunday morning, have a heavy breakfast, and play with my nephew.

If you start increasing the quantum of food you eat everyday, your appetite is likely to grow to such an extent that you will consume several persons quantity yourself.Likewise, if you increase the hours of your sleep gradually, your body will become habituated to longer hours of sleep.Your body will revolt if you ever try to cut down the sleeping hours. As such ,you do take the normal hours of sleep, which is related to your age.You may develop hobbies like reading, art, crafts, body building or some such thing that attracts you, so that there is never a time for you to feel that there is nothing better to do.Even at my age of 72 I keep myself so engaged that I feel that God has erred in giving only 24 hours in a day. There should have been at least 40 hours per day.

What do you mean by nothing better to do? Why is there nothing better to do? is it because you can not be bothered to find anything else to do? Is it because you are housebound because you are paraniod or fearful about something or someone outside that front door? Is it because you have a debitating illness that prevents you from going outside? Whatever the reasons you need to find a cure. You need to keep your mind stimulated. You ask alot of questions so you must be intelligent. Think of things to do places to go people to see to keep your life meaningful. on't sleep it all away, tempting as it may seem as you never know what's around the next corner!

Sleep has been often mistaken.
In eastern philosophies, people are taught to sleep in full awareness, so as not to 'miss' the experience of life!
So, when we 'think' we have nothing better to do, it is worth looking at the fact that most important thing is happening to us......Life! It is a fascinating thing, to experience it, and once the perception gets deep enough, we do not like to miss that awareness, whatever 'else' we might be also doing at any time!

well, as you phrased it, if there's nothing better doing, why not sleep? As opposed to doing worse :)
But seriously, I myself enjoy sleeping, or at least lying down on the bed. If I have no plans or definite ideas on what to do, I just welcome dreams. Or merely the beautiful feeling of enjoying myself without being required to think or do anything. It's one of the best pleasures of life, and if you like it, who are people to oppose it?
Nevertheless, there are, of course, activities more worthy of your time- those that would improve you, and not merely hold you stationary as sleeping does. Reading books, watering the plants, flipping back issues of National Geographic, biking or walking around, involving yourself in your hobbies- the list goes on and on. We were given life to make the most of it, and I can't say too much of a life spent merely sleeping. It's all a matter of balance, "in all things, moderation." Sleep is great. Once it becomes regular, and the rote excuse, it ceases to be.

Sometimes sleep is a better option than doing certain things which we think are useful but are actually futile. Also sleep refreshes the body and mind.

Normally, no, but that's usually because I almost always have something better to do.
Considering that it's 4:40am where I'm at now though, I think some sleep might be just the thing. :-)

Sleep is rejuvenating. If there's nothing better to do, then everything else sucks.
