Alright Arod is the greatest player I have ever watched and I have never seen someone so hated for being good. People say that he is in it for the money only, but yet it is the politics of baseball that make Arod sign a big contract. The more money Arod gets, the more money other players will get and the happier the players union is. People also call him a choke artist and he led the league in game winning hits. The "bad year he had with the yankees he had more rbis than lowell and he is looked at as a hero by red sox fan. People yell at him for leaving New York when he had fans boo him when he came to the plate. The only thing he does wrong is lately he has been unsuccessful in the playoffs, but I believe it is because the yankees fans are booing him and he gets no support from his clubhouse. When he was with seattle he had a lot of success in the playoffs. Nobody cares when Scilling files for free agentcy the day of the Red Sox perade, and Yankees fans don't even get on juiced Giambi

As a Yankee fan I hated that my fellow fans booed A-Rod. He is the greatest player of our generation aside from MAYBE Ken Griffey Jr. and he deserves all the money he can get. There are 2 types of A-Rod haters. 1) Red Sux fans, and other free agent Yankee haters and 2) Yankee fans who hate him for not winning a ring and leaving us.

As we all know fans who hate the Yankees have an irrational hate simply because they are so good. Everyone hates the rich kid who drives the nice car and screws all the pretty girls. It's jealousy. A-Rod is the best and people are jealous.

Some Yankee fans have an irrational sense of "we should win EVERY single year". Whereas most of us are happy w/ 2-4 every 10 years. We've averaged 2.5 championships every 10 years for the last century and that's fine by me.

It is only through this irrational jealousy that people hate A-Rod, but sadly enough A-Rod doesn't exactly make the best PR moves so he has some of the blame on himself. But all in all I agree with you, people need to get off his back. If A-Rod is hated so much and he's this good... than how BAD must Ellsbury be if he's loved as much as A-Rod is hated? How's that for a deep thought!!

PS- I see the Toronto incident coming up many times for no reason. Baseball players are professional and if you can't catch a fly ball when someone yells at you then your the "bush league" player who doesn't need to have a glove on your hand in the 1st place. No one in little league has any problem catching balls while other players yell at them. That's what makes baseball great.. plays like that, the hidden ball trick, the steal towards 2nd to swipe home. These so-called "fans" need to appreciate the game as it's legally played. Giambi actually used steriods yet he isn't more "bush league" than A-Rod?

There should be 100 times more anti-Giambi posts than A-Rod posts... last time I checked he hasn't won a ring either, makes 60-70% A-Rod's salary and doesn't produce half as much. Nuff said.

Why do you think he is so special? I watched him play for the Yankees the last 4 years, every game he was in, plus I watched him when he played with Texas and Seattle when they each played the Yankees. What is so special about him. I've been a baseball fan for over 35 years, and I can name any number of players that are a hell of allot better than A Rod is.

Manny Remierez, plays with the Red Sox, is 100 times the player A Rod is, was or ever will be. A Rod is not nor has he ever been a cluth player. If the Red Sox were losing and the count was 0-2 against Manny, you knew somehow someway he was getting a hit, a home run, or RBI, but whatever he got you knew that at bat was going to help the Red Sox. On the other hand, when the Yankees were down and the count was 3-0 in favor of A Rod, you knew somehow some way he was making an out or hitting into a double play. I disagree when you say he led the league in game winning hits, because he has no game winning hits.

As far as the money he makes and wants to make, as ridiculous as the amount is, thats doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as the fact that he isn't worth it. Yes on paper his numbers are fantasic, but only on paper. The fact of the matter is if you realy watch how his hits play out and actualy keep track of when he hits and how those hits helped any team he played for, you realise he doesn't help anyone. Both the Mariners and the Rangers have done better after he left, in the 4 years he was with the Yankees he did nothing at all. I don't like Manny, I don't like the Red Sox, but I if someone is actualy going to make what A Rod wants, Manny is far more deserving of that amout and A Rod's salary should get a cut to about 1/10 of what he makes. At $2.5 a year A Rod is worth it, anything over that he isn't

AROD is a great baseball player, probably the greatest of our generation. Why he is hated so much does have something to do with the ridiculous money that he gets. Also...

I don't put much stock in "game winning" RBIs. AROD could drive in the 9th Yankee run in the 2nd inning to give the Yankees a 9-0 lead in a game which they eventually win 15-8. He gets the "game winning" RBI.

Yeah he did have more RBI's than Mike Lowell, (143-120), but Lowell had a higher average, (.324 to .314), and Lowell is a MUCH better leader in the clubhouse, and a real "team guy".

Don't discount his poor performances in the post season. That might change in the future, but right now he will certainly not be confused with Mr. Ocrober... more likely he should be considered Mr. Hayfever, (you can always count on him in April and May).

Do you recall the "incident" in Toronto earlier this year when AROD ("supposedly") yelled "MINE" as he rounded third base with a two out popup in play, (that the Blue Jay 3B let drop for a hit as he backed off of it)? "Big-Leaguers" don't do that kind of crap. Not many, (if ANY), Yankee came to his defense.

EVERY team that he has left has IMPROVED.
Seattle was 91-71 his last year there and improved to 116-46 their first seasopn without him.
Texas had a losing record all three seasons he played there and went 89-73 their first season without him.
The Yankees have been disappointing for the 4 years that he has been there, (not to mention the biggest playoff collapse in baseball HISTORY with him in his first season there).

As I said, AROD is a great baseball player and will one day surpass Barry Bonds* HR record. He just isn't the "type" of ball player that I would necessarily want on my team.

You have made some good points in your depositon.....There are a few points you failed to touch on though. Due to the fact that Alex and Scott Boras are going to pilage and plunder there way through the Free agant market this off season... You and I and EVERY other person that actually still likes to go and see more then just a few games in a season, will now Being schelling out another two to three dollars at the box office, per ticket.... and dont forget the costs passed down to the consumer on items like Beer,,, Hot Dogs,,, Peanuts,,,, and God forbid your kids want a sovenier....so you see these are costs that will very likely Be added to the prices of everything at and around the ballpark...

A couple of things:
I've seen about half of the guys in the guys in the HOF play ;A-Rod is not even close to the best player that I'VE ever seen
It's not just money it'sYOUR money and when guys like A-Rod start making the kind of money that exceeds the GDP of some Third World countries it comes out of YOUR pocket , at a certain point you as Joe Fan will have to say "No That's too much money to spend to go to a ballgame " Fans of teams that play in the so called small markets have already made this decision and decided that they are not willing to pay the same ticket prices that the fans in the larger markets are willing to pay.
Tying up the knd of money that A-Rod is asking for for period of time that he is asking for it will inevitably hurt a team because by commiting that large a piece of the team's payroll percentage to one player means that team will have much less flexibility when it comes to their ability to sign other good players when the opportunity presents itself.
If one wants to be paid like the greatest player that ever lived then it is not at all unreasonable to expect that that player perform like the greates player that ever lived, A simple fact of life is that in situations that demand that great things be done ,great players stand up and do them and wannabe's wannabe somewhere else. The reason the Reggie is in the HOF and and Big Mac will never be is that despite having almost identical regular season numbers; When greatnes was demanded in the post season Reggie put out and Big Mac was just a tease.
Your'e not a New Yorker so you really don't understand them. We New Yorker have easy access to the best of everything in the world and we are more than willing to pay for quality but under one condition ; that it is in fact the quality that we paid for. The one thing that one does not want to ever do is to make a New Yorker feel that they have been ripped off because then the offender will immediatley discover why New Yorkers are known as people who shouldn't ever be crossed.
New Yorkers work hard for their money and rightly expect that the people who work for them, work just as hard if not harderthan they do.
New York fans love ballplayers that hustle and will come down hard on those who don't.
Does that answer your question ?

I don't have a problem with Arod as a player. I think he's an amazing player and I would love to have him on my team, if he wasn't so expensive. However, I don't think that one player is worth so much money. I think that's the real problem people have with him, he's already the highest paid player in the majors and he still wants more. Personally, I have a problem with his agent, not him.

He's money in the regular season (literally) but in the postseason he hasn't been that good to put it lightly. I have no problem with him as a player or as a person. If either you or I could get a raise on our jobs wouldn't we go for it? I don't have a problem with A-Rod, its that Scott Boras who annoys the hell outta me.

I don't have a problem with his baseball skills, i don't have any problem with that whatsoever. and i agree he is a great player.
My problem is just that whenever i see him (which is not much cuz i live in cali) he always seems very.. i don't know. "me me me" attitude. and he doesn't look like he plays with a lot of heart. i'm not even sure if he's a team player or not. he may be all that i just said and he may not be. i don't know really..
i'm spoiled and watched too many overly humble baseball players i'm sorry ;)

The reason i hate A-Rod is because he is a overpaid, non-clutch, quitter. I being a yankees fan do agree that we were way to harsh on him in 2006 although he sucked. bu this year all we showed him was love and cheered and did MVP chants towards the end of the year and yet he still does terrible in the playoffs. im sorry but the middle of the order is not the place for an easy strikeout ESPECIALLY in october. And yet we still didnt boo him so he had no excuse to leave except for the fact that he is a selffish greedy quitter who didnt cut it in the big apple on the big stage. i mean can he honestly say the 25 millions $$$$$$ a year he was making wasent enough???now hes gonna make 30 mill a year and BE WORTH MORE THAN 11 MAJOR LEAGUE TEAMS. YES ACOORDING TO PTI YOU COULD BUY 11 MAOR LEAGUE TEAMS FOR THE SAME PRICeYOU'D PAY AROD FOR 1 YEAR. i dont know about you guys but for me, thats reason enough to hate him. there is no reason one man should make more in one year than you could invest into buying a team. bottom line, hes a selfish, un-clutch, over-paided quitter and i hope he goes somewhere else and does the same thing so ppl realize it wasent just new york or the fans. on a liighter note GO YANKEES!!!!!!

Yankees fans are booing him because hes not on there team anymore. Everyone says they hate arod hes in it for the money... but any team that gets him once hes on there team they will LOVE HIM! The only poeple that dont like him are the people that like the teams getting beat by him... I dont get it either, he eventually will be the greatest to play the game and poeple hate him for making the most money???

Good call $C-Note$
