It's vital because it explains the world we are now dealing with, and how it came into being...
Because it shows how economic, political, military and religious forces have acted on events in the past, giving insight into how variants of these forces may be influencing events today.

The whole middle east revolves around issues which flow from the collapse of the Ottoman empire in the early 1900's and they are nothing like resolved.

"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains..."
Wrote Kipling of "a young British soldier" over a hundred years ago. That's hardly gone out of date.

Before and during the Spanish civil war, the propaganda and actions of both extreme wings emptied the moderate centre ground, initially the biggest set of groupings.
The moderates polarized, the extremists fought.
That has a certain resonance...

Yes, I know what History IS. So, I don't have to EXPLAIN what the meaning of History IS. But YOU, on the other hand, do have to find the importance of this subject, and by asking others here on Yahoo! Answers it is possible that you don't fully understand its importance.

In order to avoid sounding like a parrot, I suggest you read a good historical book, reflect on what you have learned from it, and avoid giving your teacher answers like, "If we don't learn from history, we will keep making the same mistakes."

Yes, History is important. Yes, I agree with the presence of this subject in ALL schools.

history is a story about the past, and like novels, it has many authors. many different people can write history, and the saying goes that history is written by those who win, not by those who have lost. so history can be anything, but the generally accepted historical data which are taught in schools just help u to get some idea of what has been going on long before. i personally use that data do come to the conclusions about why are things today happening the way they do, and what can be expected in the future.

Well, judging by your poorly phrased answer. You should be more concerned about why grammar is important. History is important because it'll teach you not to trust all the socialist bastards who want to expand the government on the pretense of "taking care" of the people. Right now you should focus on grammar though.

Because it is important to understand how we got where we are now so we can better appreciate the sacrifices people made, and the things they did. Plus, it's interesting.

It is true that history is written by the winners; however, it is also true that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

History shows the past mistakes and glory of our world.

It would be foolish to forget the past, otherwise we would be doomed to repeat it.
