before you decide whether or not you like them?

4-5 songs should tell you all you need to know. Unless of course it turns out to be a certain anonymous poser emo band. Even with them, I have heard at least six different songs that if anything merely validate my early opinion. The same works in reverse too. When NIN released Head Like a Hole during the summer of 89, I couldn't get that CD fast enough. Strictly based on one song.

I like to listen to a whole cd before I judge a band completely. This being said I don't like most bands that get played on the radio. Depending on what kind of band it is, it is sometimes easier to decide whether that one song is enough to say whether you like them or not. All bands have bad songs, but listen to at least one whole cd before saying they aren't any good. If you really want to give them a chance, sample some of their oldest and newest music. That way you see whether they've always been bad, or they have made a change for the better/worse

Usually three or four, but sometimes, if the song is exceptionally good/bad, it only takes one. Case in point: Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. I totallly loved them from the first time I heard that song.
On the other hand, I had to listen to two whole CD's a few times before I decided I liked the Grateful Dead, and they are now my favorite band.

My minimum song requirement is at least 4 good tracks from a band, for me to decide that I want to keep listening, of course 5 is a more desireable goal. But 4 at least suggests a possibility that I could "grow" to like them if I heard other albums. If it's only 3 - it's pretty much hopeless.

I try to listen to at least 2 from each album.
Or 5 songs from 1 album if that's all they have released.
But sometimes there is an artist that I hear 1 song from and know that they're great because they just have that something that appeals to me.

I listen to at least two or three songs, and when I like all those I've listened to, I start to like the artist. But there are times when I've listened to three songs already yet I cannot make up my mind whether I like the artist already or not. I guess it depends.

One will get me, that's why I have so many albums on which I only like one song! I guess you could rate how much I like an artist or band by the number of albums I own that they released. C'mon Spooky! Haven't you ever been hooked by just one song?

Generally I want to hear one album. I can get into a couple songs here and there like Golden Earring, Axe and Uriah Heep, but if a band nails one album all the way through I'm usually hooked.

Well I guess I'm easy enough to convince. Because if I hear one song I really like it's enough to get me to look into the band, if I like 4 or 5 songs its enough to buy an album. Hell, if a band I know I like covers a band's song its enough to gain my interest.

But like a said, even if it's a really small amount of songs, if I really like them it's enough to hook me. If I find out those were the only good songs I'll give up though.
