yes.doctors of dental science (DDS) sure they are respected, generally pretty highly and many of them make a pretty good living even if they had the knowledge to treat other than oral diseases, they would be professionally and legally limited to the treatment of diseases or conditions affecting the oral cavity (mouth) dentists would not be licensed to treat systemic diseases or conditions affecting the rest of the body then there are the specialist dentists that specialize in treating various oral conditions Well there can be a difference between a "physician" and a "doctor". The title of doctor can be given anyone who has a doctoral degree in any field, so in that sense, yes an optometrist would be called a doctor since they have the degree, just like a dentist, etc. Obviously they aren't physicians but they still deserve the title of doctor, even if it isn't the doctor in the sense that many people think of when they hear the word 'doctor'.

Anyone who has a doctorate is a doctor. So a pharmacist with a PharmD is a doctor, and so is a lawyer and a PhD. An optometrist and podiatrist are also considered doctors. Doctor is just a name of a degree.

I have a bad bad experience with my old Dentist, the root canal he did got infected really badly and he also Begged me to get braces ($$$) !! Even though my teeth are straight.
Next thing you know I heard from my new dentist that my previous dentist went to jail.

Yes, why not. I think they're all doctors, save for the Pharmacist. They're just helpful and good at what they do (for the most part).
