Other countries already banned toxic toys made of lead and toxic plastics a long time ago. Why is our country so slow to protect our own children? How smart are we to blame Chinese toy makers when we are the ones who import those toys home to give it to our children? It's not like there is a gun to our head to import those toys. We have toy maker companies right here in the US. Are we stupid? lazy? or greedy? Hopefully it is none of the above.

The head of Mattel just went to China to do something crazy. What is that you ask? They went to apologize. The reason the President and Toy Companies are so quick to apologize is very simple. They want China to continue to make toys. If the U.S. were to move their toy making to the U.S. their costs would skyrocket. A $5 Power Ranger figure would cost in the $15-$18 range. The reason for this? China workers work for pennies to our dollar. This is basically the same reason why the U.S. has companies move out of the country and into Mexico. Cost vs Safety of our kids. It should be an easy choice. Obviously they are making the wrong one.

hmm maybe the lead paint. I understand where you are going with this, I am for some regulations (ie don't put toxic nuclear waste in the lake, but too much of a "good thing" is a bad thing... any case how does the epa fit in this?) but the problem with the epa is it has become too powerful, they want to run you life, businesses go over seas to avoid over regulation, the problem is that this limits the amt of jobs that are available in the US. Out sorcing sux. And is a major reason most of our stuff are made in china.

The president has no say in the matter. It's the toy companies that do this. Don't blame Mr. Bush for things he didn't do.

People want cheap, they get what they pay for. Yes, we are greedy, we want inexpensive products but while working here in the US we expect to be paid a $1,000 an hour for turning on a machine.

only from the mind of a liberal. the president is NOT a superman. what would you have him do? its not up to him. its the toy companies responsibility and something this large cant be solved with a snap of a finger. they are doing what they can.
