I live on the other side of the country as the baby and the mother. I want to provide financially for them but dont want to have to fly all the way over there to go to court. Can I set up child support in a way that is legally enforceable (so the mother won't be worried) without going to court?

My friend just made an order up for visitation/support similar to what you are talking about. She is in Virginia, so is her ex, so I don't know if the laws will be different where you are and she is. Anyway, her experience was this: since both of them agreed to the arrangement, all they had to do is draw up a document stating the terms and had it notarized and sent to the family court to be filed. You won't have to make your payments through the court, but it does give her the legal option of going to the court if you quit paying. ( You will want to keep documentation of payments just in case. You probably are just better off all the way around if you get everything done at court though. That way there aren't any misunderstandings, and everyone's legal rights are protected. It would also be better for you tax wise, to be able to prove what you are paying.

In missouri and from what I have heard many other states, a parent can get child support from the other parent without ever going to court. Simply by contacting the Division Of Child Support Enforcement Office, one can get a child support order drawn up, and can then have the other parents check garnished.
A couple years ago, my wife and I split up for about 5 months. After the 1st month, she had child support taken out of my paychecks. This was before going to court and before filing for divorce. It was news to me and I believed it was not legal. I learned otherwise pretty quickly.

Yes, you can legally pay child support without going through the courts.

BUT!!!

Child support is ONLY tax deductible if it's court ordered. Figure out what you'll save in taxes over the course of 18 years if you get the support court ordered, and you'll see it's worthwhile to go through the court.

I think you would have to go though an attorney to get it done legally. There are guidelines on what is expected. A lawyer could tell you what these are and draw something up to submit to the court. It still would be cheaper than the expense of a plane ticket.

You can go through child support enforcement. But in Georgia they are totally unreliable. You should get a lawyer and a court order.

yes you can it doesn't need to go to court if both parties agree on how you work out child support then its fine if your ex and yourself have come to some sort of agreement then that's it BUT you both have to stick to it another way to protect your self is to write it all out and each of you sign it as that is also legallie binding best of luck :-)

Check with the state child support enforcement agency in the state where the mother and child live. It should not be a big issue.
