Most people don't know this occupation or don't post the salary because expert witnesses can write their own paychecks.

What is the average salary? If you can't answer that, do they make, on average, six-figure salaries? Thanks!

An expert witness must be a highly skilled professional before the court recognizes him or her as such.
Courts tend to look down on "professional" expert witnesses, considering them little more than mercenaries, who will testify for whoever offers them the most money., and therefore considers their testimony slightly tainted.

They can earn up to $1000 per hour, but the work is not guaranteed. And like I said, the court has to accept them as an expert.

Experts work in professional jobs and are experts on the side. Being an expert witness is a high skilled job that most people can not do. Reports have to be written perfectly explaining complex issues simply so that a jury can understand them.

Experts have to stand up to being grilled in deposition that can last for up to five days..without making a verbal mistake. Trail is the easy part...

People who have tried to be experts have cracked in deposition running out of the room or being reduced to tears on the stand. There are only a couple of thousand expert witnesses for the above reasons.

Hourly rates can be from $150 an hour with an average rate of $300 an hour. Doctors make around $500 an hour.

No expert witness gets a salary. They are paid for each job, usually on an hourly basis.

While we see a few people on high profile TV cases that make a living as expert witnesses, the vast majority are people who have regular full time jobs in the field in which they're an expert, and are hired to testify (or assist an attorney review technical filings) only very infrequently.

How much do they get paid? I, personally, have hired experts from as little as $50 an hour for a lawn care guy to $500 an hour for a forensic accountant.
