Check your computer can read dvd discs.. If so, check any cd will work in your computer. If you are trying to burn from another dvd, check it doesn't have copy right protection that provents you from copying it.

First thing to check. Is the drive you put the disk in a DVD drive or a CD drive. You can easily check this just by looking at it. It will either have Compact Disk written on it or DVD written on it. If it only has Compact Disk written on it, you bought the wrong kind of CD's. Instead of buying DVD's, buy ones that say CD-R or CD-RW.

Second thing to check. Look at the DVD drive. If it says DVD-RW or DVD rewritable, then everything should be ok. If it does not say that, then your computer cannot make DVD's or CD's.

Well, does your computer have a DVD burner? A DVD burner and a CD burner are two different things; my computer will burn CDs but not DVDs. You should be able to tell if it can, just by looking at the outside of the CD drawer. It'll probably say something like CD-R/RW. You can probably WATCH DVDs but not burn them.

a lot of Dell roms don't like a lot of cd/dvd disks. You have to try and clean the drive and see what happens and buy a different brand to see it it takes that. Try the DVD +r disks from the same company and it might take that.

I have the same computer and just discovered it won't read "Imation" dvd-r but will read "Memorex" dvd-r. Try another brand. I've seen lots of questions on technical forums about this problem, but no definite answers. Seems like it's just one of those things.

Actually, computer is reading it but it's blank (nothing saved on it). You don't need to do anything in order to burn something on it. You just need software to do the burning for you like Nero or Imgburn etc...

It is possible your DVD writer is DVD+R format only. They are not compatible with DVD-R discs
