The Big Bang Theory is easy to explain, but almost impossible to comprehend. This theory states that approximately 13.6 billion years ago the ENTIRE universe, and all of the matter in it was compressed into an infinitely small point called a "singularity". This singularity exploded (hence the "big bang") and began to expand into the universe as we know it. This expansion is still going on today, and the latest data suggests that the universe will continue to expand FOREVER! The Wilkinson Microwave Anistropy Probe website is a good place to explore for more easy-to-understand information on the current state of the Big Bang Theory. Just do a word search for "WMAP".

From seeing all of everyone else's answers i think mine is correct.

The big bang theory is how the universe was created.

A large Black hole was sucking up everything until, it couldn't hold the mass anymore (This was the begining of everything), and it exploded. When it exploded, it created time, matter, and space (The big bang is the explosion). The universe is still expanding now because of the big bang.

Im very sure the big bang has nothing to do with the creation of the earth. The earth was created from a nebula left from a supernova. This can be proven because the earth has elements over Iron which can only be achieved by a supernova.

According to the Big Bang theory, all matter in the universe was concentrated in a very dense and very hot nucleus at the beginning.A cosmic explosion occured some 20 millions years ago and the matter was thrown out in the form of galaxies. The galaxies thus formed are continuously moving away from each other. The distances between the galaxies will continuously
increase and space will grow more and more empty. The hydrogen in each galaxy will be gradually used up and the galaxies themselves will become fainter and fainter.Eventually the galaxies will fade out completely in the end. And the universe will be devoid of all matter, energy and life.
The Big Bang theory explains the following phenomena.
(1) The expansion of the universe(2)The observed microwave background radiation (3)The observed abundance of helium in the universe formed in the first 100 seconds after the explosion from dueterium at a temperaure of !0 K.This theory is now generally considered to be more satisfactory than the rival stady -state theory.

scientists believe that there was all this mass, and one moment in time it just all collided together forming spherical things or planets and then somehow someway gravity decided to pull it all together into nice little cirlces and work itself out. yeah they say earth used to be a big ball of like hot stuff or lava and that the moon was created from earth when a meteor hit earth, but how did the moon form if earth was a big ball of lava? lol (by the way, this is a very sarcastic viewpoint lol)

hmm, the universe was one big thing, and it exploded and made what we call now , stars and sun and earth and everything around

A cosmological theory holding that the universe originated approximately 20 billion years ago from the violent explosion of a very small agglomeration of matter of extremely high density and temperature.

It's a theory about the origin of the universe.

The origin of the universe centered around a densely clustered mass of particles that under stress and heat exploded and expanded in the vacuum of space to form all of the heavenly bodies on their expansive move outward from the center, the light and heat of all creation, until the universe eventually expands to its ultimate freezing death.
