question about directv remote?

I just upgraded from regulard directv dvr to hd dvr (reciever hr 21).

But I hate the new remote that came with it.

Can I program my old control (from the regular dvr) to work with the hr21?

The old dvr's were made by tivo. The new directv dvr's do not have tivo software and are not compatible.
