I would shut the computer down as normal. Then I would go back in and re-seat the memory chip and make sure that it clicks when you do re-seat the chip. Also make sure that the other chip is seated good as well. Then restart the computer and it should read it. Now you can also go into the BIOS and see if it is reading it. You might have the on board video might share some of the ram that is in the system. So that could be why too. But it should not take that much if you are sharing.

It sound like you added a 128mb ram stick to your 64 and 32 mb. I had a similar problem once. Try swapping out the ram in different slots. You might also look at your ram you are adding and make sure it is the right ram for your system. Never put ram into a computer if it is still powered on. Turn it off, put the ram into the slots, and turn it on. The computer should register the correct ram, if not, swap out the ram in different slots until it works.

It's possible that the ram chip wasn't inserted completely.
Turn off your computer completely & make sure that it is.Oh & they don't make ram chips in 224mb.It should be a 256mb chip.
A computer with 256 advertised ram may show 224mb of usable ram because a certain amount of ram is reserved for the MSDOS.That's the computers basic operating system that allows the main OS (operating system) to run.
Don't just pull the plug like the guy above said. You can damage your hard drive by not shutting your computer properly.

Shut computer down or turn it off in the normal manner.... then turn power off at power point...., count to 30.... turn power and computer back on. That's a reboot.
