Avoid commodities and trading currency, if you don't know what you're doing it's a good way to lose money. Look at stocks paying a dividend; I like Exxon-Mobil, symbol XOM.

Maybe you can lend some of your money. Check my profile. It is a good learning experience on how banks work, but the banks are completely cut out of this.
