My favorite is: A construction workers nose was itchy. He decided to use an electronic drill to scratch it. End result, drill bit through his skull. He sued because drill bit didn't say: "Warning, do not insert into any orifice"
People can be so dumb.

When did you stop knowing how to ask a questions that makes sense?
Someone's answer stated that it was because she was elderly, and that it was way hotter than it should have been. First of all, why didn't this happen to anyone else? People shouldn't be driving and drinking/eating/talking on their phones, what did people do 40 years ago??!?! I do feel sorry for that women, I don't think she is an idiot, but why do mistakes that others make have to be blamed on someone else?

Do you even know the history of this case? If you did some research, I seriously doubt you would have the same opinion.
Some tidbits about the case: McD's served coffee that was 180+ degrees to motorists who were operating vehicles. 180+ temperatures will cause 2nd to 3rd degree burns within seconds. Even if you hold a cup in your hand and not in your lap, you still run the risk of spilling the coffee on yourself and causing severe burns.
The woman was elderly, she was a passenger. Not a driver. She suffered 3rd degree burns on over 6 percent of her body,
including her inner thighs, perineum, buttocks, and genital and groin areas. She was hospitalized for eight days, during which time she underwent skin grafting. When she tried to settle with McDonalds, she only was seeking the money she spent on her hospitalization. McDonalds dismissed her pleas.
Also, it was the JURY that determined the settlement.
Want to know more? Read about the damn case.
Edit: I understand you're point of view. But this is not a frivolous case. She didn't get a teeny blister. She had skin grafts on areas including her genitals. This is extremely agonizing...putting it *mildly*. The court system found McD's negligent and risking the public's health because of the risks found consuming and handling liquids *at that temperature* in motor vehicles.
How would you react if the lid popped off while you were sipping, creating burns that cause scar tissue on your chin or neck? "Oooops, my bad?" Mmmm! Still a great cup of coffee!

there is lots of hype with regards to the McDonalds' scalding coffee case. no one is in desire of frivolous situations of outlandish consequences; in spite of the undeniable fact that, it relatively is substantial understand some factors that weren't mentioned in lots of the memories with regards to the case. McDonalds coffee replaced into no longer in basic terms warm, it replaced into scalding -- able to extraordinarily much on the spot destruction of epidermis, flesh and muscle. right this is the completed tale. Stella Liebeck of Albuquerque, New Mexico, replaced into interior the passenger seat of her grandson's vehicle while she replaced into critically burned by employing McDonalds' coffee in February 1992. Liebeck, seventy 9 on the time, ordered coffee that replaced into served in a styrofoam cup on the drivethrough window of an area McDonalds. After receiving the order, the grandson pulled his vehicle forward and stopped momentarily so as that Liebeck would desire to upload cream and sugar to her coffee. (Critics of civil justice, who've pounced in this challenge, generally fee that Liebeck replaced into employing the motor vehicle or that the motor vehicle replaced into in action while she spilled the coffee; neither is authentic.) Liebeck placed the cup between her knees and tried to get rid of the plastic lid from the cup. As she got rid of the lid, the completed contents of the cup spilled into her lap.

The world is full of people that are stupid and are modern days courts give these people the means to exact monetary relief from others for their own stupidity.
Until the courts change these events will keep happening.

how about the house thief who got himself locked in the garage of the house he tried to break into, and as the owners were away for the week, tried to sue them for starvation!!!
