Whether or not (5) the Lake Kezia Monster can indeed work miracles is (4) a matter of faith. But whenever I tell the story about (1) the third miracle attributed to the monster, whether at a (3) town party, country party, or city party, the reaction is always the same. Most don't believe it, but a few do and that is enough for me.
It happened to me on (8) the long road home from town as I stopped at the scenic overlook at the bend in the road near the top of the hill. (10) Days of sunshine, days of shadow, it doesn’t really matter; I always stop as the view is fantastic from there. That particular day, I thought I saw something in the water at the base of the cliff. Leaning out to see what it was, I slipped and tumbled down the short incline toward the edge of the cliff. As I went over the edge I made a (2) silent promise never to be bad again if I survived this fall. (6) “Maybe I’ll ride the wind” I thought as I began my drop to the water below; one last frantic hope as I began my fall. Well, I didn't ride the wind, but something just as miraculous happened. I must have blacked out or something because it all seemed like a dream from there.
(9) I remember……..I remember being lifted up by what appeared to be a flying dragon. The image was so real, I can see it in my mind to this day. The dragon carried me to the edge of the water and set me safely on the bank at the waters edge. It stayed with me a while, as if ensuring I was safe, before slipping into the water and disappearing.
I awoke some time later. By then the sun was setting so I knew it had been at least a few hours. Disoriented at first, I lay there wondering how I came to be on the shore. Looking up, I recalled my fall from above and my dream of the dragon. I, of course, do not believe it was a dream. I believe this was the third time the dragon had saved someone in the area around the lake. Two similar events had happened in the three years before my fall. Both were young hard working men who miraculously survived incidents that should have meant their demise.
Many folks think I was just lucky, or made it up, or was smoking some of the herbs found in the area. But I know. In fact, a few days later while eating at a local Chinese restaurant, I think I had my belief confirmed. When I read the fortune in my fortune cookie that day it read “There is (7) no beast so fierce that will not save an honest man.” I believe our Lake Kezia monster is not as fierce as once we thought.
I have tried to live up to the promise I made, but occassionally I do bad things. But one thing I have remained and always will be is an honest man.

They 25 monks were all locked in the little room, for what seemed like an eternity together...Not a great idea since they'd all eaten a hearty meal of beans & curry the night before.
It was a MATTER OF FAITH that they all still had their wits (& their breath) about them.
"Let this meeting come to order" The head monk bellowed, & slapped his chest with a wooden plank a few times to gain silence.
When this didn't quite have the effect he had hoped, he leant over, lifted his leg & resoundly let out a very loud foul smelling noise.
Then a slow witted, cross-eyed monk named Dillius yelled gleefully: "Glory be, it's THE THIRD MIRACLE !" Then he was overcome (with either rapture or because he had been too close to the noxious fumes of the head monk, none ever found out) & collapsed with a loud thud on the earthen floor...No-one offered to help him up. In fact no-one ever took much notice of Dillius..He was just...well....silly, cross-eyed Dillius.
The head monk then resumed "IN DAYS OF SUNSHINE, DAYS OF SHADOW, we have resided here in this monastery ~ with shaven head & tunics of linen, but the time is upon us that we must take THE LONG ROAD HOME, which I REMEMBER......I REMEMBER as the land of our forefathers." He said the last word forcefully & every eye in the room turned solemnly toward him, well all except that of Dillius, the cross-eyed monk, who was still laying unconscious on the earthen floor.
The head monk droned on & on until near dawn. They had their plans all prepared to return stealthily to the land of their forefathers.
It would be a long journey which would take at best, two years to fulfill, eight full seasons in the wild...Who knew what devillry would befall them before the end, & as to how many would survive the journey, aahh, that was in the hands of providence.
The head monk ended his taciturn speech by saying: "Let thee all now retire to sleep, much rest will be needed before we begin."
Just then, Dillius awoke & stood, woozily leaning against the far wall. Then he too, in mockery of the head monk, leant over & lifted his leg......but no sound emerged from within. Instead, what happened, was the foulest of foul smells permeated the closeted room, All the monks began at once, gasping for air & clawing at their throats..The ones closest to the closed door had fallen just short of opening it & they lay in an asphixiating doom..Their fingers still clawing at the heavy wooden door.
The only member still standing by this time was Dillius ~ who wore a grin of malificient proportions on his gnarled face. "I knew one day I'd get my sweet revenge," he crowed ~ all simple mindedness had left Dillius's face & instead, he was a vision of pure evil genius. "I was the one who called this meeting, I chose this tiny room, I instigated that the cook serve us beans & curry the other night, hahahahahaha! You've all been victims of my SILENT PROMISES....HAHAHAHA!"
He then leapt stealthily to door, (stepping on his poor victims in the process) and left the tiny room. Locking & bolting it behind him.
End.
