When you think about it the price of all essentials is a rising tide. It's not just that this affects 'the poor', it's beginning to 'create' the 'poor'. The cost of food, clothes, shelter, transportation, education, medical care and energy in total is beyond the ability of many Americans afford. For many families it comes down to food and shelter and everything else is simply beyond reach. The seasonal story of a family being burned out of their home because when the electric company turned off the power they resorted to candles is so common it's not even news. What the outcome of this will be is that a lot of 'children will be left behind'. Private charities are already ovewhelmed and the 'borrow money to rule the world' policies of the the current administration means that there will be 'no room at the inn' for a lot of Americans. Be prepared for many of our fellow citizens to be living in 'third world' America. You can only wonder what the outcome of that will be.

I live in Europe and have been paying well over $6.00 a gallon for the last six years. There is no "stepping in" and "doing something about it". The oil companies haven't stolen a thing and they are merely taking advantage of the law of supply and demand. The poor don't enter into the equation.

Unfortunately the demand for oil has pushed the price of a barrel of oil to $100 per barrel.

With oil prices that high there is no way to bring the price of gasoline down.

I recommed a substitute for oil.

The substitute is electricity generated by wind power that is used to charge the batteries of an electric car.

The technology of electric batteries is improving considerably.

In a few years the technology will improve sufficiently that we will be able to bring back the electric car.

Electricity produced by wind power only costs 4 cents per kilowatt hour to produce.

An efficient electric car can travel approximately one mile per kilowatt hour of charge.

At a cost that low your cost per mile to drive an electric car
is much less than the cost to drive a gasoline powered car.

Also, if we substitute electricity generated by wind power for gasoline and diesel fuel, that will reduce the amount of greenhose gases that we are emitting to the atmosphere.

That will help with the Global Warmiing problem.

Everybody is affected by the price of gas. If the poor are so poor that they can't afford gas, than they can take public transportation.

G-MAN you are 100 percent correct, but let's not forget that all of the cafe type's of gas and the technology that goes with producing gas certainly doesn't help the price of gas.

We, in America, are actually getting it pretty cheap. Especially compared to Europe. They're paying upwards of $6 per gallon of gas.

G-Man is correct. High taxes, around 50 cents/gallon, the fact that we don't have enough refineries to keep up with the demand, and environmentalists block every attempt to build more refineries, mandatory ethanol additives increase the price, and the fact that oil is around $100/barrel is another reason.

Who is " somebody?" If " somebody "s the federal govt, things would get screwed up worse.

If they'd force the oil co's to lower the price, it would no longer be profitableto produce, , then there's be gas shortages and gas lines.

Don't ask this here. Ask the wheeler dealers on Wall Street who crap their drawers every time someone in the middle east sneezes and bid up the price of oil another $5.00 a barrel. Greed rules.

What the hell are you ranting about? Gas prices are because of high states taxes on them, the value of the dollar and the law of supply and demand. Learn some stuff first then come back and ask.
