The EX-L on the Civic and Accord just mean they come in leather. It something Honda did to make the Civic more luxurious and to profit of it.

The EX-L has a leather interior. This usually also includes better tires and a few other small spiffs.

The EX has a 5 speed manual transmission--the EX-L has a 5 speed automatic transmission. Also, the EX-L has a better interior, etc.
