Are the roads good enough to drive to the eastern area of the country in a rental? Or is it like the US in terms of road conditions? I am planning on driving to Lichnov or Bordovice while on holiday.

Czech mayor roads are good, minor roads are acceptable, and as far as I know rental companies do not place restrictions on using their cars on the Czech roads. Check with them if it is a must for you.
In winter conditions the roads are harder to use, as the road crews do not clean all of them all the time. So small mountain roads are not the most comfy ones.

The roads are a bit more narrow than in the US, but perfectly drive-able.
If I had to think of anything mention worthy, it would be that people maybe tend to pass when they shouldn't on 2 lane roads, so be careful of that.
Rental companies don't have any restrictions on where you drive the car in the country. There are plenty of gas stations and such if you want to stop.
Weather could be bad, but that can happen anywhere. they're usually pretty quick with the salt trucks and plows, if needed.
