I was on the depo shot for a year and a half and I never had my period! Then towards the end of that year I would have spotting for a whole month and that's why I stopped using it and switched over to the Nuva ring which i love! It's very common on Depo to not have a period. I don't recall my eatting more but who knows, it's been a while since I've been on it.

i am also on depo. I have a period about once every 3 - 4 months. generally same time I have a shot. though every month I get all the symptoms of a period, just not the bleeding.

some people gain weight others don't. I have not gained a whole lot according to my doctor.

some doctors make you take a pregnancy test when you get your shot. If you are concerned about being pregnant, talk with your doctor. The shot is only 99% effective, and you could still get pregnant.

I would absolutely stop the depo shot after these first 3 months. It is a HORRIBLE form of birth control. Not only did it mess up my cycle, but it made me gain 80 lbs and I've developed other horrible conditions because of it. I am 29 now, and only had 2 depo injections at 18. I was horrible at taking the pill and thought it would be the answer. I didn't get another period for 4 years after the last injection, I developed endometriosis due to the lack of menstuation, I couldn't get pregnant, and, after doing tons of research, I found out that Depo-Provera is used as a form of chemical castration for men found guilty of sex crimes. It wasn't approved by the FDA in the U.S. until the late 60s due to it's unknown effects. Had I known all of this, I would have NEVER used it. If you're bad at taking pills, see if the NuvaRing is available and right for you. It was a lifesaver for me. PS- I'm FINALLY pregnant. Finally.
