He is omnipotent (all powerful). Astronomical data says universe began 13.7 billion years ago; earth was not formed unitl 4.5 billion years ago. Why would God wait 9.2 billions years after creating the universe to create earth? And, waited another 4.5 billion years to create humans, if we are really God's untimate reason for creating the universe? Anyone have any answers? He must have had a reason.

We are talking about the universe and planet earth. That qualifies it to be in this section!

I do not have an answer to this question, nor am I going to attempt to give an opinion to it. I will say that everyone who is giving thumbs down to the people who mention the idea of no god are all stubborn idiots. First of all, I agree that this idea doesn't exactly belong in this section, there is no science that proves anything about any religion to be correct, so therefore this question shouldnt be in the section about math and science. Secondly, for you that do believe in a god, you should be promoting him and attempting to guide others to this god, not bashing other people's opinions whom believe differently.

And if you disagree with me, you shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion on anything and should just go jump off an overpass somewhere.
That was a joke of course.

EDIT: This is for the addition to the question because there was an edit.

True, the question does pertain to the Earth and Universe, but that is what religion is. Religion explains how the Earth and Universe is formed, in a way not related to Science. It's like the origin of life on Earth. In science, it can be traced to certain chemical reactions (I'm assuming), because all things in the entire universe are made up of different chemical elements. However, in religion, one can say that a god just created life. But that still explains science, doesn't it? Hopefully that made some sense.

Religion is a way to explain the reasons of science, but it is based off of unprovable opinions.

Did the Bible say "On the first day, God created the universe" and then "on the next 9.2 Billion Years God Created th Earth?" Of course not. Why believe in that nonsense that the universe had existed at that point of time? Does the Earth have chronological record of events that happened that time? Can the Earth write down for mortal men probing theories here and there to read?

But, if I humiliated myself into the next century and God revealed that truth, he would give a reason that would make Him just wonderful

Not a single human is aware of the true answer. To be honest, I am a Christian, and even I question God and his will. Since God is aware of every human action, like religious individuals say he/she/it is, perhaps God expected us to begin studying the world surrounding us at a given time. The Big Bang theory states that the universe was incredibly hot in the beginning; if so, conditions would not permit living things to inhabit the universe. Thus, billions of years later, when conditions were perfect, Earth was created. This satisfies the Big Bang theory and allows faith in God to be even more rewarding, since science explains our origin and we do not sense God in any way. Like I stated before, however, I do not think anyone has knowledge of God's will and intentions.

If you have faith that there is a god, then it should not really matter how long it took God to create the earth. 6 days is merely a drop of water in the ocean of infiniti.

Also, you question why god would wait 9.2 billion years to create earth. Perhaps, it is because he was creating other worlds before earth. Or, perhaps it was his whim to create the earth at the time he did.

Read up on other religions... After some research you see that there is a correlation among various religions with similar backgrounds (ie. Babylon...). These all use numbers to symbolize things, you just need to read up a bit of Plato's Timaeus to see how cryptic it all gets. So don't go reading something like the Bible so literally. And most definitely don't go asking yourself what the reason was, maybe the symbolic meaning of the literature (which I can't recall....) but not the reasons. Remember, someone wrote this with meanings, and reasons far far from what is.

Sorry, better go ask that in the religion section.

P.S. The reason I suggested going to the religion section is that you haven't really asked a scientific question. You are assuming that "God did it", and that God had a reason to do it.

There is no scientific explanation as to why the Universe exists. We do, however, understand quite a lot about the history of the Universe, even going back to a fraction of a second after the Big Bang. Much of the evolution of the Universe can be observed directly with telescopes, because the fixed speed that light travels allows us to look "back in time".

It is possible that the development of the Universe, the Earth, and everything in it did not require the intervention of a god. Furthermore, scientific hypotheses do not allow for the intervention of supernatural actors. So your question really is a religious one, not scientific.

You may be talking about the Earth, but you can't use God (something that which, by definition, cannot be proven without the use of religion... aka circular reasoning) in an argument for the creation and science of creation (something for which there is tangible evidence).

And to answer the question, I'm not sure, I haven't talked to him recently... maybe you should ask him?

First of all, God created the universe in 6 literal days (no million years). He did it in 6 days because he wanted to, easy as that.

That's like a video game, it's very fun and interesting to play it all rather than cheating it (finishing it quickly). So God enjoyed taking his time while creating the universe.
