YESSS!! these people are saying no it will kill them, it will cause allergies, it will make them sick oh please I have raised 8 Children not all mine but all since birth. The thing is every child is different thats what makes the human race so unique. Some kids need more then the orthers this goes for formula, breast milk and food. My daughter who is now 18 was breast fed for 3 weeks but she was so hungry she was eating every 30 min. I put her on the bottle her formula amount increased rapidly over the next 2 weeks I tried adding a small amount of cereal that lasted for a week then yes i actually gave her jar cereal at 4 weeks she loved it! And guess what she has had 2 count them 2 colds in 18 years they lasted 48 hours she is the healthiest kid i have ever met she is beautiful not over weight not a rail she has been asked to model for pictures and fitness magazines which she turned down because she is shy. My other daughter was not ready for cereal until 3 months she nursed for 7 weeks then formula until cereal added to formula at 3 months. Another boy I raised had ceral at 6 weeks and yes jar food at 31/2 months. Bottom line you no if your baby is requiring more nutrients, if you think your son needs a little cereal then try adding a little to his bottle if he likes it (some dont) give it to him until you think he needs a little more after a while when thats not satisfying try jar cereal (just the cereal) a little warmed up maybe a half jar at first and change amounts as he needs. then fruit and vegies I like to alternate spoonfuls of them because if you do fruit first they might not take to the vegies. Samething with real table food when he is ready push the vegies first so that maybe he will like them. Basically I think it is your baby and NOBODY knows him better then you. when love something as much as a child no book or person can tell you what he or she needs better then your own instinct this will help you to be a great parent in every aspect of his life because YOUR PAYING ATTENTION. Good luck and congradulations on your baby!

WOW is all I can say. You sound like a kid who has a baby to me not a grown woman. First off. 5 week old eat every 2 hours DUH my son is 4 months and he eats every two hours ONLY milk and has yet to eat anything differant. If he is not doing it a newborn def should not. Of course he likes that baby food it was sweet. Why would you do that? Why are you in such a rush to feed him? If you research you will see that drs actually say wait 5-6 months before you do some can at 4 months but its not even highly recommended. The longer you wait the healthier they will be and that is why I am waiting. I am so mad that their are mothers like you out there that do not deserve these angels. I am sorry but this just made me so mad as a mother to have to hear like your baby is a toy.

A five week old is too young for cereal, their digestive system is not mature enough to digest this type of food. Rice cereal should not be introduced until about 4-6 months. Just focus on the breast milk or formula, the time in between feedings will eventually stretch out to 4 hours and at night time 6-8 hours. It all just takes time. Be patient and do not rush. There will be plenty of time for baby food and the fun that new change brings.

5 weeks is waaaay too young for cereal! My daughter is 3 months and her doctor has not even given ME the okay for cereal. You need to be patient and feed your baby on demand, but only breast or formula. Every two hours is perfectly normal fora 5 week old.

He is really too young to give any solid foods yet. His tummy and digestive system just aren't ready yet. Usually 3 + months is the time for doing that. Feeding every 2 hours is not really that usual at his young age. Are you nursing? Some women just don't have enough milk and need to supplement breast feeding with formula. Maybe try that before giving him any solid foods.

no honey... its normal for baby's to eat that much
he is getting what he needs right now from his breast milk or formula
DO NOT mix cereal in s bottle and give it to him
u aren't supposed to give baby's cereal until 6mths
For one, a baby’s digestive system is not yet mature enough to properly break down solid foods until they reach this stage. Other problems that may occur are allergic reactions, growth may slow due to lack of protein obtained from breast milk or an iron rich formula, they may gain too much weight too soon and will most likely drink less breast milk or iron-rich formula because they are too full.
please do not give ur child cereal

No, and please understand that it is *normal* for a five week old baby to want to eat every 2 hours. He is going through a growth spurt. He will do this again at about 4 months old too. Just feed him every when he is hungry (ONLY breastmilk or formula). You can really mess up his digestive system if you feed him baby cereal. He can choke on it - even if it is thinned out. It can cause allergies later on too. Just be patient and give him a bottle (or your breast) when he is hungry.
Take care.. :-)

I did not give it to my son until he was like 3 months. But A girl at my work she gave it to her kids a week after they were born. A doctor is going to say no just like they say don't put your kid on there stomach but now a days most people do just like it use to be don't put them on there back. Some people give there kids certain things sooner then others. If you did I would only do a very little because he is so young. But honestly I would just feed him a bottle more often or give him more. My son liked to eat a lot. I started feeding him real food early. Now he is 18 months. But at that age they eat a lot. I fed my son every 2-4 hours when he was a baby. And honestly the rice ceral did not really happy make him more full like I thought. Just give him a bigger bottle.

My son had severe acid reflux when he was barely a month old, he wouldn't hold any of his formula down. We took him to see his pediatrician, who sent us to see a pediatric specialist. He told us to start feeding him his formula with rice cereal mixed into it. Mix in just enough of the rice cereal so that the formula can be sucked through the nipple. We use Dr. Brown bottles with a number 3 nipple. Its not a normal nipple, it looks like someone cut the initial hole with a knife but they are made specifically for this type of feeding.
If you have any question please contact your pediatrician.
