Do you think that government has a right to
decide a family type for us? Why or why not? Do
you think that people should have freedom to
choose their own family styles as long as they do
not hurt others? Why or why not?

Across the world, some governments limit the
number of children a couple can have, many
governments limit the number of spouses a person
can have at one period of time. Some governments
decide the conditions for divorce, while some
governments prohibit marriage between people of
the same sex.

Arbitrarily, NO! The government should not intrude in these areas.

However, in an emergency situation, then the government has a duty to its citizens to do what it possibly can to alleviate the problem.

This is the case with China. That country was facing a disaster of epic proportions with uncontrolled births. Without government intervention, the populace would have been starving, and suffering. Their solution sounds harsh to us. But I can guarantee that it would happen here as well were we faced with the same situation.

as a child born from communist china, there are it's advantages and disadvantages.

Advantage: first of all, because China IS overpopulated, it is a good thing that they regulate the population. Or else jobs would run low and if you've ever seen pictures of the streets in China, it's so crowded you can barely walk through on the street, which of course makes it easier for pick pockets to steal.

Disadvantage: Since the chinese like boys so much more, and they can only have one child, they give the girls up for adoption so they can continue having children and trying for boys. The amount of girls availible for adoption in china is UNBELIEVABLE. Second, they have no control over their family size. Even if they want more children, they can't. In my grandmothers generation, the limit was two children (and as you know it's now one). So my mother and her younger brother were fine. Then my grandmother became pregnant with her Third child. I'm not exactly sure of what happened or whether my young aunt was even "Legal." I do know that my grandmother had to pay big money for her birth certificate and when she entered school too. so there's a little info.

and my opinion: it really depends on what nation. For example, regulating how many kids a family has makes does make sense in China, but if that were to happen in the U.S or any other "not as populated" countries it would be more of an intrusion of rights......and your other question, should families have the right to choose their own way to live, i think they have every right as long as it doesn't affect others. everyone has rights. If they want to worship the devil they can, as long as it doesn't harm anyone. If they want to be gay, then they can, as long as they don't do anything to hurt others. Anyway, that's my view on the situation. Hope this helps :-)

and comment to the first person that answered....I'M not a red communist.

The only government that controls reproduction and limits the size of the family is China.....they are a communist bunch and control everything their citizens do...no freedom.

It is nobody's business what two consenting adults do, nor how many children they want to have or anything else... The government is to govern. Here is our country, WE are the government....

As for divorce......that, like marriage, has become all tied up in religion. It is meaningless to have laws against either.

Yes and NO, a person should have as many children that they want as long as they can afford to support them with out asking the government for assistances such as food stamps, free medical etc., free or reduced school lunches, etc.
If you make them, provide for them on your own.
