Depends on what government you mean. The federal government should have no control over anything but up keep of infrastructure.
What you are asking here may well be controlled by local or state government in my opinion. That way if some one didn't like what the state laws were where they were born they can always move to a more suitable state or locality.

I don't think the government has any right to control any of those things except the number of children. The type of family and amount of spouses and the sex of that spouse should not be controlled because the U.S. government has no right to push any morals or ethics upon its citizens. Unless an action impedes upon another persons human rights, the government has no right to say that someone can't engage in a certain activity. As for number of children, if there wasn't a global population issue, I'd say the same as above, but as of now the Earth may not be able to handle a much larger population of animals on it. It's projected in the very near future that our population will grow to 10 billion people, what will happens in 50 years? Population could be out of control and we don't control population, people will die from famine because there will be a point where we as humans cannot make enough food for everyone. In nature, when an animal has no natural predators, it's population skyrockets, and that usually is not good for that community. That's why we try to kill certain algeas and plants and fish that invade lakes and kill everything, because if we don't that community will not survive. In the case of humans, our community envelops the whole world and you could imagine what would happen.

As far as how many children? Well families should be relatively smart as to how many to have or how many they can afford to clothe, feed, etc.

hell no America is the land of the free home of the brave.. Government cannot control how many kids we have. They should never have a say in that. If I want two kids or ten kids its up to me to decide not the government. otherwise we would be in a communist government
