I just introduced 2 oto catfish into an established 5.5g tank with only 3 small kuhli loaches in it. I thought that both of these fish are peaceful and would live will together, however the kuhlis seem to be ramming the otos.

The kuhliis may just be checking out the newcomers. They are both peaceful species, but once the loaches get over being in a new environment, they can be pretty active (and want to interact with others). This could be a problem for the otos, since they are nocturnal, and are trying to "rest" while the kuhliis are active (yes, these are also nocturnal, but you'll see more activity from them during the day than the otos).

My concern is that you seem to be getting fish that both occupy the same area of the tank (the bottom) in a fairly small tank. The kuhliis will get about 3-4 inches long each, so the area they have to use is going to be fairly crowded. The fish are going to be running into one another, and it's the otos that will probably suffer for it.

Kuhlis are really social, playful, and active...normally they should be okay with otos, but make sure the otos have somewhere to retreat to if the kuhlis bully them. You could probably add a couple more otos, this might make a difference.

That is fine, though your Kuhlis should really have more room than that... There will be no fighting, but your fish won't be terribly happy... You should try to get a bigger tank, and 3+ more Otos... Contact me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Kuhlis don't have any aggressive bone in their body, and even if they did "attack" the Otos, they would have no way to harm them (Kuhlis are soft, little worm-like fish)...

its a territorial thing. especially with it only being a 5.5g tank. kuhli loaches usually stay burrowed under the gravel or sand or under some decor during the day time and come out a night. you may not even see them for a few days. but i would recomend getting a bigger tank. the kuhlies might get too aggrivated and feel threatened by the otos coming into their area and be too aggressive. but it seems ok for now.

glass catfish would desire to be in faculties no smaller than 6, they'd desire to be housed with non violent laid bach fish, gaurami at the instant are not perfect tank buddies, and sharks are a foul ideah. Otos and cories are the two shaoling fish, fairly than preserving 2 tiny communities of fish which would be scared and under pressure, you may elect one and get 4-5 of them. crimson tailed sharks can get aggressive, they'll in all probability be a controversy to the different backside feeders different than in a lots greater advantageous tank. some the different way up catfish get way too large to your tank, those that dont are schoaling fish and could be saved in greater advantageous communities

Both species are quite docile and peaceful. There should be no problem at all.
