Nope, i can't. The hubby says we have enough animals. Besides, can we actually afford to care for another one properly? That's how do it - it's still so damn hard though!

You have to put it in perspective. I know how you feel but you can only handle so many pets. Most cities have laws that limit the number of pets you can have.
Rationalize, by thinking of the cost for food, and vet bills. If you can't afford an emergency vet visit, then you set limits. Time is another consideration as each pet needs an abundance of attention which is impossible with too many.
You don't want to become a "cat collector" with a house over run by cats in unsanitary conditions.
Hope this helps, I love cats and have two, along with a dog and a turtle.

I remind myself that I already have 4 dogs at home that cost me time, money, and energy to take care of. I know that I do NOT want to go through another "puppy stage" right now -- I don't want to have to get up in the middle of the night to take the pup out, I don't want to have to deal with the chewing and the biting, I don't want to have to deal with several puppy meals per day, I don't want to have to deal with the expense of several rounds of puppy vaccinations... I could go on. :)

You can't save them all. You have to learn that.

Remember, even though they're cute as adults, too...that puppies and kittens will grow out of that baby face...and while they have that cute little baby face, they'll still poop up your house, pee on your carpet, etc etc etc until they're trained.

They may keep you up at night howling/meowing until they learn you're not going to abandon them, etc.

I don't. I still want them. There's no shame in that. You are an animal lover through and through..it just means you're passionate and you don't have to feel the need to stifle it. Doesn't mean you should let yourself end up with 28 cats and 15 dogs, but you will know when it's time to stop.
