Just like anything else, there are good and bad aspects of Walmart. On the positive side, Walmart passes some of the cost savings that it gets from its supplier on to customers, and allows them to purchase more with their existing paychecks. It also keeps other stores' prices down, benefitting consumers who don't even go there
On the down side, Walmart doesn't have the best reputation for treating their employees well, and their success is built on the backs of their suppliers. By demanding constantly lower prices, they suck the profit out of their supply chain, and leave only the strongest companies alive to keep supplying to them. Most of these companies are foreign, so Walamart is actively promoting the loss of industrial jobs from the U.S.
They do similar things to their competitors. I have heard countless stories about how once thriving small towns were decimated once Walmart opened and drove everyone else out of business. This limits the consumers' choices to those that Walmart gives them, and makes it difficult for any products that Walmart does not want to carry to gain traction in the marketplace.
So, we have a company that provides low prices every day, but runs roughshod over anything in its path to make a profit. While I understand the appeal of low prices, I would vastly prefer spending a little more to get personal service, a better selection and the feeling that I was supporting the local economy.
While I am opposed to the impact of Walmart on society, I think the government should not take sides, and let the market work itself out. Yes, Walmart has grown dramaticall in the last 30 years, but now there is actually a backlash among consumers against it, and with the falling U.S. dollar, cheap foreign products aren't going to look so cheap anymore. I don't see Walmart going away any time soon, but I also think it's growth is reaching its logical limit. It will continue to provide products for those who value the things it stands for, but the proportion of the population that shop there will decline as we grow more prosperous and sensitive to factors other than just price. There is no need for the government to do anything, the market will correct itself in due time.

the good part..It creates jobs, it supplies consumer goods affordable to low income groups, it contributes revenue to the government in the form of taxes by the sheer volume of sales it generates. The bad..it causes economic dislocation to smaller stores like mom and pop operations where it is located, it also relies heavily on imports from countries where labor is cheap thereby causing job losses in other parts of the economy (thus negating the job contribution it generates), and also contributes to the balance of trade deficit by importing on a wide scale products it sells through its retail chain..the real winner? the Walton family...but that is the way of capitalism. The government is not in a position to do something about it because Wal-mart is not breaking any law. It is not a monopoly that has to be broken up because other stores like Target and K-Mart are in the market to offer competition. You cannot regulate good business sense and effective marketing and distribution practices that Wal-mart is really good in..

I totally trust you. there are lots of persons who've no longer something. My daughter gets very spoiled by employing our families and for the previous 2 months I even have asked that she no longer acquire any presents till Christmas so as that she will delight in the failings that she has. That replaced into this form of mindless dying.

I think its innovative. It is the model of capitalism,at its best.Government shouldnt put its nose into affairs,it doesnt need to.Examples are tobacco and petroleum. Two things that the Government collects a lot of money from. without ,putting one iota of anything for the profit they rape from the finished product.I think William N answered, this question best.
