Ladybugs generally aren't harmful to plants, so you have no worries there. They are going into their hibernation period, and in doing so, they tend to form large groups.

I wouldn't worry about them too much. If you start to notice some damage to your plants, it may coincide with their arrival and would possibly be a good idea to invest in some pesticide. Typically they only feed on aphids, but when their primary food source is short, they will eat what is available - plants.

If they lady bugs you are seeing are more of an orange color, they are the harmless ones. If they are more red (deep or bright), they are the harmful kind. They will eat your plants and even infest your house. Be very wary and pay attention.

Insects like ladybugs and moths, etc. have hatches at different times of the year. Soon after a hatch you see them everywhere, and they have voracious appetites for other bugs; but ladybugs kill aphids and other pests, so they are worthy little creatures--and they soon leave--especially since it will be getting cold pretty quickly now! They don't bite, and they don't sting. They're a blessing to your garden.

they're congregating, looking for a place to spend the winter... like your attic....maybe... if they can find a nice hole to use to get in there.....otherwise, they'll likely move on after warming up in the sunshine....

small red ladybugs with a few black spots are the good guys... leave them alone if you can handle it..... those that are bigger, in different colors like white, light orange, yellow and with lots of dots are Asian ladybugs and are a good thing for farmers , but a problem for homeowners... these guys try to hibernate in nice places like your attic, too... but they are known to BITE, they stink if you squish'em and if you do, the stain they leave behind won't come out of paint or walls or woodwork or fabric!!!... suck them up with the vacuum!!!.... use a clean bag in the machine, then take the bag out of town a few miles and release the bugs.... (just open the bag on the ground)... if you're not feeling like riding around town, just use any old bag, suck 'em up and dispose of the bag in the trash... these bugs reproduce like crazy and you're not hurting anything by dumping them!.... they're pushing out our native, nice little red ladies.... and I'd like to see them ALL GONE... but that's not a good thing for the farmers.... sigh.... if the native red ones gang up on you and get inside, please do be nice to them and let them go down the road.... thanks....

here you can visit sites about the Asian ladybugs...
