A golden rectangle is a rectangle with the shot and long sides in the ratio 1:φ, where φ is approximately 1.618
Rectangles with this proportion are generally regarded as aesthetically pleasing, and have interesting mathmatical properties.

Are you referring to the Golden Triangle? It's an extremely rich poppy growing area that supports most of the world's illicit opium trade and includes parts of Thailand, Viet Nam and China.
