Secrecy, political prisoners, bullying tactics, excessively harsh criminal penalties, allowing little light to be shed on their internal or external activities. Shouldn't the rest of the world be wary of this country's activities rather than treating them like the new belle of the ball?

What I mean by "darling" is that it seems from news/etc. I have seen that money countries in the world are accepting and loving all things China with open arms rather than really scrutinizing and openly criticizing their horrible track record and lack of basic human freedoms like speech, for example.

I am not "singling out" China, I am just making what I believe to be an empirically provable point.

wealthy greedy people love china, (not the general population) because a iron fist keeps the people in check thus keeping labor and enviromental concerns mute.
there was time not to far back when the usa was like china economically (not politically or socially), the wages were dirt low, the enviromental affects devastating, working conditions lousy, long hours, high cost of living and child labor.
but people had property rights, freedom to assemble, get involved in politics etc, as result the people were able to rally get unions in up the wages, improve working condtions, outlaw child labor, increase social spending for schools and health care, what health care existed at the time, people got pension plans and vacation pay etc.
but corporation giants do not like such concessions, even if they are fair for both parties, they are only interested in profit and do not care how they get it even if they have to murder people to get it (wars, insurgencies, terroism acts, you know funding them)destroying whole ecosystems or whatever, after all they can just blame the poor people for chopping all their trees down to make fires to cook what little food they have or blame global warming.
that is why places like china are loved by corporations they won't allow any unions or uprisings or trying to get child labor laws passed or enviromental laws passed or having to clean up their own messes, it is a dream place for such greedy selfish people.
let's face it a corporation is only fiction it is made up of people who make the dicisions they do, they are guilty of so many sins (lawlessness) it makes them out to be monsters. which they are.
if one makes desicions based purly for proft and knows that their policies is robbing others of clean air water and fair wages and safe working conditions and decent working hours etc, they are monsters regardless of how they view themselves, actions speak louder than words.

Well, for one thing, I believe China is not much of a Communist country as it used to be and has turned more Capitalists if anything. I believe the world is starting to accept China closely because the country is really starting to catch up with the world and trying to complete feats never done before with the beijing olympics. China has a definite impact throughout the world in many different ways.
To answer you last question, i dont think other countries would be afraid of china's activities. in history, china has never been on the offensive side (other than allies). they have only fought to be defenseive and protect their people. it is unfortunate that they do have some corrupt people and officials, i have to admit. but china is making the turn around for the better and to become a more prominent and noticed world power.

I quite agree. It is appalling how the Administration has toadied up to China especially given all the hype coming out of Washington on human rights, democracy and freedom. China is hardly an exemplar of any of these, it is a militaristic regime with long-term imperial and territorial ambitions. Why cuddle up to China while keeping Cuba, a more benign regime, out in the cold. One of the big policy errors was pushing for China to be admitted to the World Trade Organisation which has created problems in the world trading and financial systems because other countries by and large keep to the rules and China does not.

Unfortunately it all comes down to money and greed. China has such a huge untapped population that is largely unwesternised in terms of advertising and market potential. Now that China has become more wealthy with more 'disposable income' than preciously and consumerism focussed like the western world there is obviously zillions of dollars to be made by clever entrepreneurs and businesses that can tap into their market. So the western media you read and hear is reporting about greedy governments that want to get into bed with China to pillage its people with goods and services they don't need, rather than reporting on China's negfative aspects and possibly offending them.

Is there a jail or is there any prisoners in U.S.??? You called Muslim extremists as terrorists. Chinese called opposition as anti-revolution. Every government want to do something before being judged by opposition. Then, they need to lock up extremists and do their work.
In Chinese Old-saying: "All ravens are black wherever they are."
Around the world, many things need to do on Human Right. In fact, the first step is to get a clear understanding in the Universal Declaration of Human Right. Then, you would know that Chinese Government got a pass-mark in the implementation of Human Right. It seems that Chinese government will continuous improve and hopefully would scope a credit by year 2020.
It is also an old-saying: the world is round and is rotating. That means things always changing.

Secrecy, political prisoners, bullying tactics, excessively harsh criminal penalties, allowing little light to be shed on their internal or external activities. . . Hmm wait a minute... you got the name confused !!! You are talking about the USA !
Oh no, you are right, that couldn't be the USA. You didn't mention all the violation of foreign country, government's lies and propaganda and corruption.
Since the US and China are the top worst countries as of respecting human life (How much blood the US have in foreign nations where it financed corrupted leaders and stole the residents of their resources, leaving them starving ??), it is normal that they are "Friends". And also, China have a strong hold on the US BALLS, through over a trillion in federal bonds.

Ive been catching alot of reports on TV about the Black Market organ/body parts trade going on in China and other countries. In China they round people up - prisoners or whatever and slice and dice them, then sell the organs to the elite with money. Yet America is called by many as a prison state. Amazing.

They have been sleeping for more than half a century and suddenly when they join the world in trade they matter a lot. The impact to the world is so great that we are all blind to what has been happening on human rights issue. They are like a fad to the world for the world to enjoy what in the previous past a hermit country.
It will be the same for Burma, if the country is open to the world.

Cheap labor and therefore goods.
Too many companies worldwide profit inmensely from this.
So as the money rolls..........opinion rolls along.
Anything that you don't understand in world matters is all explained if you follow the money trails.

China has become very powerful in recent years, and is becoming increasingly Democratic. While still Communist run, people are now allowed to run businesses, more wealth is prevelant and in general, life is better.
Yes, they are very harsh on criminals. Yes, things are different there, very different. But is is a very old society and it is still Communist run.
