I think it's a couple of things...
1. Peyton Manning fell into a great situation on a team with an excellent General Manager, and eventually an excellent coach. The Colts have only two or three starters on their roster that came via free agency.
2. Tom Coughlin is a piece of work. He's never been known to mentor a QB. Eli's never had the benefit of a QB friendly system.
3. Eli isn't as skilled at reading defenses. Peyton calls his own plays. No knock on Eli, but it takes a super cerebral QB to pull that off.
Eli has the physical tools, and some talent around him... but perhaps that isn't enough to build the inertia he needs to get over. Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer are no Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison...

Eli broke all colleges records made by Peyten, but doesnt have the experience of Peyten in the pro light as of yet but he will if he stays healthy.I have seen Eli getting better consistantly.Team mates makes a big difference,so as long as he has decent WR's and defense that will keep him in the game he will and is showing to be a good QB.BTW i think the Giants will beat the cowboys tomorrow and the Giants will be in the playoffs.

Eli doesn't seem to beable to read defences as good as Peyton. So he has to rely on coaching staff on what to do. Peyton can read defences really well so he calls is play at the line from what he sees.
New England disguised there defence real well by keeping all their Dbacks up against the line causing Peyton problems Sunday

It's both mental and physical. Look at it this way, If Peyton QB'd the Giants, they would be the best team in the NFC. If Eli QB'd the Colts, they never win last years Super Bowl.
