She looks really ugly in Transamerica, how can that be? Who is she really? The one in Desperate housewives or the one in Transamerica. Make-up only can't do that.

It's called acting and make-up. Personally, I don't find her at all appealing on Desperate Housewives.
Who is she really? A person who acts for a living. It's odd to me how often people think actors are the characters they portray.

it shows her versatility in acting that she can actually transform herself to a new character.
make-up and prosthetics does the trick,whether to make one pretty or add up a new look to a more defined character.
