My sister has been denied her breaks at work. What are the laws? Yesterday she worked 5pm to 10:30pm and she asked for her 15 minute bring and they got snotty with her and told her "we don't have time for breaks" Today the denied her a break again. She just started this job and doesn't want the employer not to like her cause she wants to someday be hired for full time. Let me know any sites to look at or what the laws are.

all you have to do to get the real and accurate answer is look in the phone book and call the labor board of your state they govern the laws and will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have accurately.

Laws change state to state and on here all you'll get is i thinks and people who are guessing and say they know but know nothing.

I do not know what state you are in but in Illinois if you work 4 hours you are entitled to a 10 or 15 min break. If you work I think it is 5 or 6 you get that break and a 20-30 min lunch and if you work 8 you get 2 10-15 min breaks and 30 min lunch. I also do not know what she is doing if it is in the food business ie. she is a waitress the rules are usually different.

I believe for an 8 hour shift you are entitled to two 10 minute breaks. No lunch.... Just a total of 20 minutes. Pitiful, but I believe very true.

I think for 5 hours you are required at least a 15 min. break. 8 hours is two 15 minutes and one 30 minute.
