Taking away a day of rest would reduce injuries among pitchers? I kind of doubt that. Pitchers are fragile as it is, and going to three days off probably wouldn't help matters.
The big problem is that lineups keep getting better (the DH is part of the problem, the emphasis on offense is another), and pitchers have few breathers. Take a look at some of the lineups in the 1960's, and you'll get the idea. Some of today's teams just wear pitchers out. We're also a lot more knowledgable about pitch counts and effectiveness now.

The Red Sox are actually reported to be considering a six man rotation for 2008 to reduce injury and fatigue. The rotation would be Beckett, Dice K, Schilling, Lester, Wakefield and Buchholz. Schilling and Wakefield are into their 40s and might benefit from the extra rest. Both had injury problems the last couple of year. Dice K apparently got 5 days rest in Japan.

The 4 man rotation would only put the players in more danger of an arm injury. I agree with the 1st answerer, miamiman -- back in the day, it was the mound that caused the pitchers to have less stress on their arms.

the reason todays players have all these arm problems has nothing to do with the rotation. If the players would build up arm strenghth like the players of yore you would see less injuries. Take Dice K for example. It was not unusual for him to throw 160 pitches in a game before he crossed the ocean. He has never had any arm issues.

But then they would pitch more innings, and there would be more likely to be more injuries if you ask me. back then baseball was different. Too many risks in going in a 4 man rotation if u ask me.

I dunno...to me it seems like there would be more injuries. Besides it's the team's choice...they could have a four man rotation if they wanted to. Or a six man or seven or three or w/e.

There also used to be a higher mound which is actually what prevented most of the arm injuries, it has nothing to do with the rotation.

Also, used to be less, and better quality, pitchers. Expansion and poor/lax training methods have led to poor pitching, not the 5-man rotation!
